I need euros...

Only the bigger banks do the foreign currency exchange thing. So, yeah, go to a relatively large bank chain to exchange dollars for euros. I'm sure you can do it elsewhere, though, too.

yeah, the "downtown" big ass banks can do it. i dunno where you live though - im talking downtown as in a major city.
i was told however, to just go to the exchange at the airport. supposedly they have the friendliest exchange rates.
btw, enjoy losing money. i almost cried as i watched my beloved dollar get reduced to mere coins.

Well, Im sending money to a band. Only way. Just emailed to see if he accepts anything other than euros. I don't wanna be the typical rude American who thinks the dollar is good everywhere, if you know what I mean.

option #2... paypal one of our european fellows the amount for no gay fees, then have them send said $s. Probaly get their faster and you'd save yourself trans-atlantic postage rates, at least 1 way.

ugh this just goes to show doesn't it

in sweden we have dedicated (free) currency exchange places everywhere, at least one if you're in a decent sized town, all banks do it, and in the larger cities there are places around every corner seemingly

our currency just isn't very universal

Same here, even our post offices do it for free. They make some profit on the exchange rate, but not a huge amount...

The bank I'm with* let you use ATMs around the world, don't charge for withdrawals and also give you the true exchange rate (not the Tourist exchange rate). I was getting $1.91 to the £1.00 in Austin earlier this year.

Check to see if the bank you're with offers a similar service.

(*It's Nationwide, UK folks..)
