here is a song of a friendly band of mine I recorded last week.
I want them the best so I realy want to make a good sounding mix so they get some shows outside of our hometown.
When I give them their copy they said its sounds like crap and I killed the power and rough ness of the songs???

It´s rockn roll but I think rock and roll still kicks balls!!!

For the enginiers : I don´t use any tricker. And it´s my first mix in cubase 4
the new plugins are realy killer

so enjoy the song. And please post me some comments.

It´s like a kick in your face when you are working the hole night and then to hear it´s dog shit:puke:

I dont know, the singer said something about to much reverb on his voice???
I dont know what he realy mean.

The drummer said his drums are to metal (this is a pound I can understand)

and they say it´s to clean not dirty enough???

The best thing was that say that every song sounds the same?

I realy like this duds but it´s quite depressing for me

what do you think about the mix?

For me it needs alot of time to like their songs but now I think they are great.

I listen alot to death metalcore hardcore

and these guys are a nice change.

You have to give the song some time

The vocals are a bit wierd, it has a bit fo a warbling effect to it....

The drummer can shut his mouth. The snare does sound a bit bangy but really, i've heard a lot worse!

and they say it´s to clean not dirty enough???

Tell them for their next CD to buy this

That's their problem with crappy writing not yours with pretty well done mixing.

If they're happy with the mix, fair enough but outright telling you it's dogshit is fucking bad.

I take it they're paying you for your time yeah? Your full studio rates?

If they're not, they can just take it and like it.

If they ARE paying full rates and will pay for for the time you spend remixing then get them to sit in with you and they can tell you what they want.
If they're not willing to do that, tell them it's their problem.

what do you think about the mix?

Personally? I thought you did really well considering that the band are fairly bland, boring and since reading this, egotistical pricks

Ive just checked it out on headphones and think youve done a pretty good job on it to be honest. Think the vocals might need to be a bit dryer but on the whole its a good mix. Ill bet youve made them sound better than they actually are.

The only thing I can think of is with this sort of band sometimes they dont want the cleanest best mix. lose some of the separation and make it a bit dirtier a bit more demo and they might like it IMHO.

I take 3 takes of vocals. The best loud, the second best with amp simulation and the third for some effects. without this effects you cant listen to the songs.

The thing is: I am starting to work as an enginier. there is no DR. PROF. enginer you can do to get bands in your studio. the only thing you can do is to make great records.

So the point is I dont want to make demo sounding cds do you understand?

This is what I have to say to the band.

and thanks for the reply

No problem, totally understand. Like I said its a good mix and Id be happy with it but Rawk and Roll bands might prefer something not as clean. Comments about vocals are just down to my taste so no wrong or right about it.
Youve done a good job but could the band think they are better than they are?

Seriously bro, i was trying to be a bit .... nicer about the situation but since everyone is saying what i was thinking:

Dude, you've done a pretty fucking awesome job. Post a dry mix if you can i wanna hear that singer with no FX, I'm willing to bet he's pretty crap.

If you really wanna show them a metal mix, drumagog the kick/snare/toms with sneap's samples

Dude, don't let them get to you, since they're paying cheaper prices or "Mates rates", who the fuck gives them the right to say it sounds like shit?

I'd personally just tell them to take it or leave it.

u did a good job productionwise, but i totally understand what the band dislikes about it.
you produced them like a metalband (not bad though), but there's the rock/grind/dirt missing.the guitars are too metal, i think a cranked marshall (poweramp-saturation) and a vox together would have suited the music better.

again, your production is way better than the band, but i still understand what they're complaining about, we all think too metal ;)
don't get me wrong, your work sounds really good!
it's just that i'm trying to understand the band, that doesn't mean i think they deserve any better or have the right to complain about anything, they should already be kneedeep inside of your ass at this point!

anyway, i'm constantly making the same mistakes, offering bands low rates, and all you get is a bad reputation, cause the band's telling shit about you....
always the same.
charge what your work is worth, or they won't appreciate it!

These guys are realy good musicians at all. But they want to make music like that. take a look at the drums, no triggers no editing...

But they love their music TOO much.
It´s very difficult to work with...
but this also a part of the job;)

Thats pretty much what I was trying to say just said better.
