I put some superchunks up yesterday...

oh so super chunks is like a codename for bass traps? Got it, that's all I needed to know, thanks haha

Not quite... traditional 'bass traps' are 4" thick paneling, but a superchunk is a triangle-shaped mass shoved into the corner, floor-to-ceiling.

What I've always wondered... can you get away with non OC703 stuff for superchunking? Something cheaper and more easily available, preferably?

Yes, but it seems that you'd need to do a slightly bigger/deeper chunk to get the same effect if you use fluffier stuff. There are some.. discussions going on which is better/more effective per amount of material used and/or/vs. the size of the trap.

Unless it's the really fluffy stuff you use to insulate roofs, then it should be ok to use.

Roxul is nearly identical acoustically to 703. It's generally suggested to use 3-4 pound density stuff for 24" face superchunks. With 34" face superchunks, you'll want to use something lighter, like the fluffy pink stuff you can find at home depot. There are pros and cons to each of coarse. I'm building some 24" face chunks out of Roxul RHT40 at the moment.
