I really want to hear Glenns take on thos one!!!!

Personally I think they probably shouldn't have said "rain or shine." That causes a problem, but for crying out loud if band equipment gets damaged that's tough luck for the fan honestly. That's an act of God thing and not the band's fault. I feel sorry for the guy for spending all that money, but that's the risk when you travel for an outdoor concert.

I think in a case like this, the band should offer ticket refunds for those who won't be able to attend the rescheduled date. The whole airfare shit sucks, but you know what, it's the guy's problem, not the band's. Rush isn't suing mother nature for the rain, are they? It's almost the same shit.

I think it's pretty ridiculous that you're going to actually file a lawsuit against your favorite band over that. However, I completely understand considering that it's part of the culture of this country to sue anyone for pretty much anything. Maybe they should not advertise it as "rain or shine" anymore, because people have the (in my eyes, stupid) idea that if "It says on paper or elsewhere, and it's not true, I can sue them for it." It's friggin' stupid. The mentality of "I don't like it, therefore I will start a lawsuit" is so irrational, it's not even funny. Shit happens. There's a chance the band will have to cancel a show. However, whiny little bitches like this guy take advantage of the fact that the law "allows" for this type of shit.

Man, that's lame. Considering all the lamer reasons bands have to cancel, suing Rush, one of the hardest working bands out there, makes no sense.

Someone should have sued Symphony X when they no-showed in Fort Lauderdale on the Blind guardian tour. "Events beyond our control" was the official "explanation". Sorry, they owed their fans more than that.

And then the opening band was forced to play for like three hours. Why was the local band made to play that long and not Blind guardian? If Blind Guardian had done a longer set, it would have softened the disappointment substantially. Since someone had to step up, why was it them and not the band everyone came to see?

That's a tough call, if a venue states "rain or shine" they should be prepared for ANY circumstance that should arise so they can stand behind their word. If they are unable to have extra cables and PA speakers and anything else that could be damaged they shouldn't advertise it as such. I believe he has a right to ticket refund based on their guarantee.

My stand is.. you cancel the show.. you refund the ticket money, that's common courtesy and sense. How many bands re-schedule and then are never able to make it back? Or get sick? Lose a member? Death? Off Genre; my mother had tickets to Bette Midler, she canceled, rescheduled, canceled again and refunded the money.

On the other hand, shit happens, Murphy's Law, life's a bitch... pick your saying.

I won't beat a dead horse and make a long reply out of this, but in this day and age the American public norm are materialistic and self centered as hell. This does not surprise me one bit. Having said that..... promoters and bands need to realize this and not print something on the ticket stub that says something to that affect.

A friend of mine that I had in my late teens went to a Cindy Lauper (however you spell her name) concert. The guy was into hard rock and metal so I really don't know why he went.... but that is beside the point. He told me this story..... Cindy was about three songs into her set and the power went out. After a few minutes of blackness all around, her crew members got out their flashlights and shined them on her and then she sat down on the end of the stage, but moved around to different places again sitting down and talked to the audience for an hour and a half until power was restored. She then finished her whole set starting with the song the power went out on. Cindy found a way to improvise.
Am I saying I blame Rush ? Absolutely not. I do not have enough information to blame anyone. I certainly do blame this Langone guy for being a greedy asshole. However, when events like this are planned, it seems like too often not enough preparation goes into them.

that is actually cool as hell. it is amazing to see what some people will do for thier fans and what some wont. I bet 100 bucks that everyone of those people had an amazing time at that show because they got something that no one ever will get to experince. It is always nice to see performers who are there for thier fans and not milk them for thier money.

Penn and Teller are the same way. After each one of thier shows they go to the front doors to say thanks to everyone who came out to their show. To me that goes a long way and breaks down that fake wall of "they are better than us" attitude.

I think suing Rush is kind of a joke and like said above...it is the way society is now. I do think refunds should have been given out. That is why I dont like outdoor shows....you never know till the band is out on stage if it will happen due to weather.

I was probably 19 years old when this took place. Needless to say my mind/values etc. are totally different than when I was 19. However, that story actually gave me a big respect for Lauper.... even back then when it would have been nothing for me to simply make fun of someone like her because I was a big-bad metal-head and she was ...... I don't know a pop singer I guess.
Music artists are not simply "artists" or musicians. People skills can and do factor in. If you go outside of the PPUSA crowd in the US, how many people really adore Urban Breed ? Sure, he has fans outside of this forum, but his people skills put him over the top as far as fandom here. People like Urban because he is a great singer/songwriter, but also because he is fun.

Hmmmm....... I think I am going to rename myself... as OffBryantopic. No one hijacks a thread quite the way I do eh ? :( Damned ADD and alcohol !!

Wow, must have been a helluva storm.

When Rush played here at the Verizon Amphitheater last year, a truly intense severe thunderstorm blew through about 30 minutes before the show. The roofed-over seats are surprisingly open to the elements and the horizontal wind/rain combo drenched the spotlight rigs, the mixing console, and flooded parts of the concrete risers to 8" deep: there was no provision for any drainage, since the concrete was under the roof, and of course, it never gets windy or rainy in Georgia.....

The show went off as planned.
Rush did not, alas, play "Chain Lightning" or "Jacob's Ladder" in honor of the event...but a kid DID bodysurf down the grassy incline on the lawn.

I can attest to this personally!!! Saw them in downtown Chicago in the late 80's at the Schubert Theater and while leaving there they were outside the theater shaking hands and personally selling and signing merch. What great guys!!

That is great !! It is performers like that who attain longevity.

Ronnie Dio (RIP) was exactly the same way and was very humble to his fans. In fact, as big of an ass as he is in interviews etc. I have met Yngwie twice and both times, he was as pleasant and humble as one could be..... maybe I caught him on good days, but..... who knows.

hahaah that is funny. I saw them then too. I also went about 7 years ago to see them at the Chicago Theater.

Maybe I should sue Evergrey for canceling the Jaxx show last year *after* I'd already bought plane tickets to MD. Or maybe that's just the risk I took for going out of state, and found something else to occupy my time that evening!

That's just such a dick thing to do when there's a good and logical reason for canceling the show - if they never rescheduled or refused to honor the old ticket, sure, but otherwise? Shit happens.

Seriously. Hasn't this happened to tons of people? I drove 3 hours (bad traffic) to Connecticut to do an interview with Sonata Arctica and see the show. Brought my youngest son with me too. Ten minutes from the venue, the manager calls to tell me the show and interview are off. (Tony was sick.) I had a non-refundable motel room, so what to do? My kid (wisely) had brought his X-box, so he commandeered the TV, I hit the lounge and watched the Olympics. Hey, I had a "business" commitment with them. Should I have sued them for gas/motel/food etc.? That would be ridiculous.

I have so many more stories much worse than that. Especially from some poor German girl who flew over here for a Nightwish tour and they cancelled three of the four shows she had planned to see.

Shit happens. You can't sue for everything you don't like.

Same experience here. He's great with his fans.

but a kid DID bodysurf down the grassy incline on the lawn.
Now THAT'S metal! :kickass:

Thats it! I'm sueing Glenn for the Vandenplas cancellation a few years ago. I spent $1500 for a vacation that wasn't as great as it could have been because Vandenplas cancelled. If they would have been there I would have had an A+++ vacation, but instead it was only an A++ &1/2 vacation. Glenn, I'm gunning for ya....

And on a side note...see ya in 2 months

I should sue Hawkwind for cancelling that show at the 9:30 Club in DC all those years ago....went up there on Amtrak and everything!

It's so true..... Shit Happens. Volcanoes erupt and spew ash across the skies. Weather forces cancellations and postponements. You can't sue for everything; sometimes you have to grin and bear it..and consider buying refundable airfare next time and damn the extra expense.

I'm sure it was the first time it ever happened there, too....the venue is owned by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and I somehow can't picture their typical demographic bodysurfing down the hill on the grassy lawn.

Ummm..on a related note, did it even rain that hard last Wednesday?
I remember it raining lightly early evening, but my daughter still got her t-ball game in.
Maybe the storms were stonger in the city.

Still though, I am sure if it was canceled, it was for good reason.
Maybe this a-hole needs to think a bit here.
It sounds like the band and equipment WERE there.
If they wanted to use it as an excuse to not play, wouldn't they simply stay in a hotel or not even come to town?

As someone said, RUSH is one of the greatest hard working touring bands of all time, of any genre of music.

They are touring in support of an upcoming album and the new documentary is out and all.
Lots of things going on keeping them in the spotlight.
I REALLY doubt they would intentionally pull a "snow on the roof"
