I think Abbath is a wholly underrated guitarist

I have had my ass kicked by ATHW a few times this week! I love that album.

Abbath=:kickass:
Immortal= :kickass:

Nec, you really should check out ATHW.

i really do like AtHoW. it is an amazing album all the way through.

i love the band, but i only listen to blizzard beasts, pure holocaust and AtHoW. seriously, if you like AtHoW, how can you not love Mountains of Might from blizzard beasts? it's more or less where the band went with the next album, AtHoW.

sons of northern darkness, i dont get the hype with that one. it's OK. damned in black sucks

I just listened to Battles In The North again last night. The production is fairly crap, especially the drum sound, which is entirely unfitting. The songwriting is pretty boring and almost leaning toward a Death Metal tinge.

Yep. If I had to pick two albums to avoid when tyring to get into the band it would be "Battles in the North" and "Damned In Black" simply based on their production values alone. I pretty much agree with your analysis of Battles... but I think DiB has some really strong songs (the title track is incredible), the poor production does get in the way though.

Today I'll revisit Blizzard Beasts, which I think I've only listened to maybe three times, but recall enjoying somewhat.

Definitely do so, along with Pure Holocaust.

True...but he DOES have a bone necklace, and he's standing in front of what appears to be a castle, so that just puts it over the edge for me.

Many years ago I made the mistake of downloading Battles in the North, which was my only impression of Immortal for a very long time. It is not a bad album, in fact I quite like it now (in context of their other albums), but it made a terrible introduction to the band. I have since learned that both old and new alike, Immortal are grand.

Today is perfect convertible driving weather so I - Between Two Worlds is blasted at top volume accordingly. Winter is ending, and I need some rawk. But really, I'm bumping this because new Abbath comes soon and I am excited for more of Black Metal's Answer To Diamond Dave. He is the master of riffmanship and showmanship.
