I Think Gene Hoglan Should Be The New Drummer.....!

Gene isn't exactly Opeth material

I mean...the bands he's been in haven't exactly done acoustic songs...or songs over 10 minutes long

I think it's a dumb post because he says "I think Gene would make the band stronger" and he has nothing to back it up with. It'd be interesting if he came up with reasons why Hoglan should be the drummer instead of Martin, but he didn't. It's probably an idea most of you thought of but were smart enough to keep to yourself

Poor Lopez, he's sick for a few days and people are talking about replacements already. Where's your respect for this great drummer who's added a lot to Opeth's sound?!!

I know Gene personally, I've been on tour with him, a couple times(Dark Angel, Testament)........I know he is a big Opeth fan, and he was willing to try & help the band....I've seen him drum & he is one of the best, no disrepect to Martin, I hope he gets over his problems, I feel that Opeth would be alittle more aggressive wth Hoglan, and thats the way I prefer the bands direction.....it's just my opinion......but your right I should have backed up my Post.......If for some reason Martin, can not continue with the band, I think Hoglan would be a stellar replacement........I can remember a simular situation while working with Exodus, Tom Hunting had the same problems & Johnny Tempesta stepped in from Anthrax Roadie, to full time member, & now he's in Rob Zombie.......Sometimes these situations do not resolve so quickly, & need treatment & therapy, not jumping back on the road like all Opeth fans what, just to see some shows for themselves, but I wish him a quick recovery.....
Again not disrepsect to the band, Martin, or the loyal Opeth fans.......

I really like Lopez's drumming.

Gene Hoglan is probably my favorite drummer though fuckin' amazing. He was awesome at the SYL dvd shoot as well and don't think he'd have any trouble playing Opeth material. They even said he played Drapery Falls perfect on the first take and when Lopez heard Hoglan was playing with them he freaked out as Hoglan is his idol.

Martin is in the band and he will stay if he continues to stay healthy. Should unfortunately he not be able to continue due to health issues at some point in his career which could happen I think Gene would be a nice fit to Opeth. But until something like this happenes (I for one hope it never does) it's pointless to discuss that someone replaces Martin right away.

Thanks Deadly, now I think this post is much more worth while  .

I agree with some points, like that Opeth would be a lot more agressive with Hoglan, and if that's what you'd prefer, than your post makes sense, but as for other people like myself, I like Opeth the way they are, I think it'd be REALLY interesting to see them more agressive with Hoglan behind the set, but for now, I'd rather stick to Martin. Although if Martin ever did leave the band for ANY reason, even if it's not over recent troubles.... wouldn't be interesting to hear a black metal style occult themed opeth album with Hoglan behind the set??? hmmmmm. I do feel bad saying that though because I have so much respect for Martin. Just thoughts I guess, no disrespect whatsoever.
