There are so many times I wanna give someone kudos for a joke, post, etc. and just wanna give them a pat on the back instead of an actual reply.
?
?
we used to have "rep" which was exactly that but they took it off a long time ago
noobs get flamed no matter what
Newbies aren't any less intelligent
In most cases I would agree, but on this forum?
I think rep is a retarded idea. It makes some people place more value in the words of a really GREEN'd user, whereas all that means is that the user has been posting at the given forums for a long time. Newbies aren't any less intelligent, but end up getting flamed because they don't have as much "rep"
what about the ability to give +'es for a post (not minuses), almost like on youtube?
In that way it wouldn't be the user, and the user wouldn't be judged on that kind of thing, but the post would...Kinda.

I get what he means and I'm for it.
There would be a "Thanks" button under each post and you press it when you want to "thanks" someone. This someone can go into his CP to see who thanked him about which post.
This wouldn't be seen by the others (for exemple, you couldn't see hom many "Thanks" I received) and they wouldn't be cumulative, they would refresh every week or months (so that there's no "The Ultimate "How many thanks you received" thread".)
The button wouldn't allow you to write anything, because there's PM for more specific things.
Thinking of that, here's an other idea in the same way:
A Fast PM function.
Between each post, there would be a FPM button with the Quote and Multiquote one. This one would open a little box *maybe like the "search" one* and would allow you to enter a PM to the poster, quoting at the same time (automaticly) the post at the very begining of the PM.
So, would Fetzer get the first "Thanks"?
I remember the rep system, and it was lame. Thanks isn't about popularity...and it doesn't matter IMO if they are public or not. I just think its a nice way to give someone props.
That's stupid, and would definitely be abused. Fetzer's idea was the best, to not keep it public basically.
