I fucking LOVE this cover. Brilliant work Toby.

Why are you guys so fixated on Opeth!? I'd rather have less mention of why it is better than Opeth and more about the actual music ffs. That tested this reviews credibility...wtf does Opeth have to do with it!?

Anyways, incredibly excited about this album nonetheless.

I think the review does very well in addressing previous misconceptions about albums we've done. (constant comparisons to opeth and/or metalheads reading "delicate parts and heavy parts" and immediately thinking of Opeth).

I'd be interested to see if anyone *not* from the Opeth board finds Jake's mention of Opeth unnecessary/suspicious- so far all the comments I've read decrying it are from Opeth board regulars.

Hehe, it's our job to defend Opeth, we're the ones that actually like listening to them. :p

I do agree that comparisons between Maudlin and Opeth and stupid, one mention of that in the review would be fine, however Opeth pops up throughout the review and keeps hinting at how much better Kayodot's music is, how it is so much more innovative and varied...

Even if this is true (which it probably is even), it is irrelevant and unnecessary and just reinforces the annoying feud that has been going on.

Anyways, it's no big deal. I don't want to get in a lame argument. heh.

I really don't think his review does this at all, or rather, intends to criticize Opeth. He does go out on a limb to make a discernation but in light of past comparisons it seems very relevant. Opeth is never qualified at all in the review (naturally, it isn't an Opeth review). He basically says Opeth = metal, KD = not metal.

I don't care whether something is metal or not.

The reason that I can see this being hinted here is because as a drooling Opeth fanboy it is my job to nitpick. :p

I could say that the mention of Opeth followed by a description of how much MORE Kayodot does in itself hints at Opeth's inferiority via association...but in saying so I just look like another raving Opeth loony when it really isn't that big a deal to me. I just find it funny that Opeth is the band that OF COURSE pops up in the review, that's all. :D
