I absolutely LOATHE their covers of "Black Metal", "Sleepless" and "Hallowed be thy Name", which I downloaded and listened to out of curiousity. TOTAL SHIT, not one redeeming fucking second in any of them. They make me want to send Dani Fag mail bombs. Seriously, I despise this band so much I write this with clenched teeth. For me, they stand for everything wrong with today's metal scene. You're not likely to win me over.

I don't expect to. Their cover of Sodom's "Sodomy and Lust" is quite excellent too. I do not understand the argument of you're second to last sentence.

I agree. I miss the days when CoF weren't trying to score with goth chicks and when they made albums without Roadrunner poking them in the ass with a sword telling them what to do. Apparently people like lyrics about vampire romance and necoseks. Who would have known?

Those Iron Maiden and Anathema covers are abominable. As far as converting someone on this forum, I'm not sure what the point of this exercise is, without bashing the band explicitly, their faults are numerous and glaring enough that I doubt anyone who thinks they suck immensely is going to look back and say "no wait, this rules!".

I'm not elitist... I listen to U2 for fuck's sake. I just generally believe that CoF aren't afraid to whore themselves out for some money and appeal to weak minded people looking to fit in. This isn't about keeping black metal true and all that jazz, but its about making music for the right reasons. This also isn't because I simply don't like the music- there is very able musicianship in CoF... and I regonize and respect that.

I'm not doubting the musicianship its members, I just think that they manufacture music for an intended audience.

My little sister's boyfriend though "Sodomy and Lust" was a Cradle of Filth song. I had to take him out back to the whupping shed and beat him like a red-headed stepchild.

For what it's worse, I do think there are worse bands. But not that many. Anyway, I'm gonna DL that Sabbat cover, but if it gives me cancer I'm suing.
