Ibanez EDB

So I have an Ibby EDB-500 (same as the one below in the bronze/red) and the tone out of it i've always liked for being so chunky and passive, but i've often considered whether I can replace the pups for something with more bite, similar to ibanez's alcino pickups they use in their SRX basses... or maybe some EMGs... the only issue is the shape of the pickups on this bass... they're alot longer and thinner than standard soapbar pickups...

any suggestions other than routing and drilling more holes??

i my self don't have much experience besides trying few basses with them (sr505,sr506,sr1006) and i was impressed.
if you'll search over the net and especially over the talkbass.com forums you will find that many people recall very positive about them.
