Ibanez RG550 - GAS-Pain

Lasse why do you have such GAS for Ibanez RG 550'S?

I thought your opinion of Ibanez was that they are pretty crappy, yet you still get a boner for 550's on regular basis.

I was just playing my beat to crap RG 570 (original not a reissue) this morning and thinking it would be really cool if the body was not bass wood.

Yeah an 80s or early 90s RG550 with a maple neck is on the "one day" list for me as well. Although normally I play guitars with baseball bats for necks they are really fun to play.

The problem with waiting too much longer they are either getting junked out or too high to justify buying.

I have no idea man....
I have an RG570 as well (original old Fuji-Gen, Edge Trem, square heel...)
IMO/IME the Ibanez guitars just don't have the same character etc as ESP, Jackson....
They just don't sound that great (for rhythm stuff), but the old ones just play like a dream for solo stuff....
But I really can't tell why I'm repeatedly GASsing for a yellow 550...yellow is my least favorite colour....I'd NEVER play it live or use it on a recording...I'd just use it for practice at home...and I could just as well use a cheap 350 or so for that....I really can't explain it

Not yellow, but it's an '87 (or '88 don't remember) 550 with original Edge trem...and my favorite. They'll have to pry that guitar out of my cold, dead hands. :D

I actually took the aftermath out of my 570 and put the stock V2 back in...sounded better in that guitar (and it actually sounds quite usable!)

here she is:

can't see it on the pick, but it's flamed sunburst

I purchased an early 90's black RG550 with Hard Shell Case for a price that is just too low to mention, it would probably make people cry. I know I almost did... it came with rosewood fretboard and lo pro edge - didn't bother me. It plays unbelievable, Those old RGs are Ibanez at their prime and glory. I have yet to play an easier playing guitar. It fucked my Ibanez S540FM TLS right over, I actually haven't touched it since.

here's my yellow 550 to add to your GAS Lasse ;) it's actually a 86'/87' prototype, possibly the 3rd or 4th RG550 ever made. i bought it on ebay from Rich Lasner himself, had him sign the back of the headstock heh. awesome guitar, plays like a dream, the neck seems a little flatter than other wizard necks too.
