On a blank planet.
What is exactly is wrong with, or bad about the stock pickups on the Ibanez RG7321? Almost without exception, every single person that I've heard of with this guitar - on the net and in person - has had them changed to DiMarzio pickups or something else. I'm interested in getting one of these guitars soon, but won't be happy paying for something with crappy pickups.

Just about every single Ibanez guitar comes stock with shitty pickups. Even some Prestige models. The signature models (JEM, JS, PGM, etc.) come with good pickups that the artist uses, like the DiMarzio EVO in the JEM, and the DiMarzio pups that Satriani uses in his JS guitars. But especially the low-end guitars will have crap pups in them.

They are just super cheap. Horrible freq response, bad attack - overall odd sounding pickups. They do not exert the qualities that anyone wants in a pickup.

You need to get use to the idea that if you are going to buy an Ibanez, especially a lower model, you will have to budget at least enough extra cash for a bridge pickup replacement. Any Ibanez I check out I budget a pickup swap into the price.

The problem of the ibanez rg7321 pickups is that they are too muddy. They don't have definition in the lower B string, but this guitar is an amazing choice for the price.
Go to the store and grab some Emgs, or Duncans and thats all!

My Jackson is a Dinky Reverse 7, and I routed out the pickup cavity to install one EMG707 in the bridge. I kept the neck pickup in, though, and high-strung it soon after. I like to play the middle position because the EMG comes out stronger than the neck pickup, but the neck pickup adds a lot of girth to the sound. Gives me a bassy sound. All I'm saying is, wire that sonofabitch up if you're only gonna replace one pickup.
