I love it, but it's an old pedal so I almost instantly put a new tube inside it. I don't know about the maxon 808 but compared to a tubescreamer it's a little bit smoother and there are more options as far as shaping your tone with it. Also I have noticed you can get it to break up quite a bit more than a tubescreamer (I run the gain at around the first mark witch is not very high). The adapter was a little tricky, I found out that it's some wierd reverse polarity deal and doesn't run on 9v, I actually run a 12v 500ma adapter with it. The unit itself doesn't have any helpfull markings in regards to that. The other thing that I know about the unit is the switch that ibanez put on it was crap, and another thing I needed to replace (I have read this on other units sold on ebay, sellers saying the same thing). It's a great pedal, really a shame ibanez doesn't make them anymore . I am looking to get an 808 eventually so I will have one to reference to in the future, but I am broke as fuck right now as I just purchased some gibson pickups. In closing, I would never get rid of this thing worth every penny (I bought mine 5 years ago for $120 usd).
