According to Amazon.com and Century Media Records' official release schedule, a new ICED EARTH DVD, entitled "Alive in Athens", is slated for release on October 31. The set is believed to contain video footage recorded during the band's 1999 two-night appearance at at the Rodon Club in Athens, Greece which previously resulted in a two-disc live CD of the same name. More information will be made available soon.

As previously reported, ICED EARTH recently officially launched the search for a new bassist. All interested parties are encouraged to send their bio packs to ICED EARTH mainman Jon Schaffer's store at the following address:

ICED EARTH in late June announced the addition of Elkton, MD guitarist Ernie Carletti to the group's ranks.

Mastering his craft beyond 19 years and teaching guitar lessons to 100 students weekly in excess of 16 years, Carletti is equally versed in styles such as classical and jazz but his first love is heavy metal "shredding."

The central figure of ICED EARTH is guitarist and songwriter Jon Schaffer, who originally formed the band as PURGATORY in 1984. Though the band has undergone numerous lineup changes since its inception, Schaffer has remained steadfast in his passion to thrash.

Schaffer is currently working on a concept album based on the "Something Wicked This Way Comes" story that first appeared on ICED EARTH's 1998 album of the same name. A 2007 release is expected.

ICED EARTH's last release was the "Gettysburg (1863)" DVD, which came out in June 2005. The main program, a CGI-rendered video presentation of the epic "Gettysburg" trilogy from 2004's acclaimed album "The Glorious Burden", drew praise from fans and media alike. The DVD was also reportedly being used as a teaching tool in several high schools across the country

Five years ago I might have cared .

I still like IE but they don't interest me nearly as much as they used to. Their stuff all starts to sound the same after a while, and The Glorious Burden was a piss poor effort no matter who sang on it.

Some of The Glorious Burden is amazing, but I am not looking forward to their new stuff so much. Schaffer still has it (as Touched By The Crimson King is awesome), and Ripper is a great vocalist, but I think having him sing on the Something Wicked album will be wrong.

Still, nothing changes how awesome Alive In Athens is, so this should be one KILLER DVD. The live clip of Melancholy I have from these shows is really great, so the DVD should be a corker.

awesome, awesome!!! TGB was poor, with a few exceptions... The Something Wicked idea has a lot of diversity to it, to be honest I don't think Ripper will be able to cover it all that well... TIme will tell... But fuck yeah, Alive in Athens DVD!!!!!!!

Should be great - if you like that kinda thing anymore. Inactivity seems to have killed off any interest I had in that band, regardless of who is it these days.

This is obviously just an attempt by Century Media to cash in on 'better times'. There is no way Jon Schaffer would want this to be released.

I am guessing he was waiting to get control so he could release it his way, if at all. Doesn't matter though, because it will still rock, and I am glad we get it.

I think Ripper has a better range than you see during much of his material. From what I have heard of Beyond Fear, it was just an excuse for his to show off his soaring ability...if he did more softer stuff, it would be better, and I am sure he is capable.

Barlow/Ripper, the vocalist worries me not. They are both great. I just care about him writing interesting music but I dont think he has written anything interesting since burnt offerings.

THAT is killer. Even if it isn't a 16 camera crew shoot like Jon wants, this will still be awesome.

Schaffer came out the other day and essentially said that the footage was shit..... so this release is going to be interesting.......

He only said that because he is a perfectionist and he is planning on filming a DVD on the next tour with a huge camera crew, and this shoot only had a handful of cameras. Still, it was pro shot, and the clip I have seen (which was Melancholy) looked fantastic, not shit at all. I suspect it will be great.

Ah, so that Melancholy clip was from those shows? I've seen footage supposedly from the Athens shows (different stage, completely different), and it's very shit. Hmm, now that you mention it the pic on the back of the case is the melancholy stage. I have no idea where those video clips were filmed then........
