anonymous, I have never heard you sing a note, but I can easily guarantee that your vocal prowess does indeed rape Matt Barlow. Why do so many people get on Barlow's dick and praise him so highly? Baffles the mind.

I liked Matt's voice. He sounded powerful. Owens sounds weird sometimes, especially in the Valley forge and The Devil to pay intro ( when he says in July 1863). He sounded... I dunno... I thought he didn't sound right. Opeth_sucks I agree with you when you say that Jon Schaffer sucks now, but I wouldn't say that Barlow was that bad. Oh and, which music do you like??? We only see you complaining about some bands but you never mention which band is good. Do you hate every metal bands on earth???

I disagree with Anonymous, however that remark inquiring why Anonymous didn't join Iced Earth is just childish. Not everybody in the world has had the fortunate luxury of being convened from a Priest cover-band to sing in Judas Priest, asshole. Do you have any idea how much notoriety he amassed from that endeavor? Nonetheless, Matt Barlow was a beyond-exceptional singer with a remarkable range and NO ONE can replace his vocal contribution to Iced Earth, not even Tim Owens. That being stated, I thoroughly enjoyed "The Glorious Burden," despite Tim Owen's misplacement in the band. I'm sure I'll grow to appreciate him eventually though. Oh yes, and Jon Schaffer's talent is undeniable. Listen to his guitar-work on "Horror Show" and particularly "Night of the Stormrider." If you still believe that he lacks talent, I recommend having your hearing checked.

DiscipleofPlato I think that Schaffer has talent too.. but he doesn't show this talent anymore. Just compare TGB to NotS. NotS was great, TGB is boring except for the trilogy and Attila.

I completely agree! You should see the review I wrote on this section of the forum. Weird is that not a lot of people wrote replies. I thought that some would flame me or something but no... I only had a few good comments ( thx guys again ) which is weird too cause a lot of people seem to love every parts of this album.

The gettysburg epic is AMAZING. I love history, especially war history. I live very close to Gettysburg, and I am a bit of a civil war buff. Every time I hear the gettysburg epic I get chills. The song is broken down into three parts, one for each day of the battle.
The Devil To Pay: At the start of the battle, the Union army, under the command of General Buford held the town of Gettysburg. The battle started at 5:30 am when The Confederate army, under the command of Generals Heth and Reynolds, attacked. The fighting lasted for almost 12 hours; the union army was forced to retreat from Gettysburg and take the high ground at Cemetary Hill, just south of town.
Hold At All Costs: Day two, the battle of Little Round Top. General Lee ordered two divisions of the confederate army to attack Little Round Top, at the far end of the union line, which was not heavily defended. If the confederates could break through the line, the unions flank would be open to a full scale attack which would likely cause the defeat of the union army, and win the war for the confederates. The union troops at little round top were under the command of Colonel Chaimberlain. They fought off wave after wave of confederates, and eventually started to run out of ammo. Chaimberlain ordered his men to fix bayonets and on the next confederate attack, fire their last shots and then charge them. Chaimberlans plan worked, the union troops charged the confederates, and held the line.
High Water Mark: The final day of the battle. General Lee orders a full scale assault on the Union line. At noon the Confederates open the battle with a huge bombardment of cannon fire. The union army returned fire with their cannons. The cannon fire went on for almost two hours. After the bombardment was over, Lee ordered General Longstreet to signal the attack. Longstreet didnt believe Lees plan would work, the union army held the high ground, were behind a stone wall, and had cannons aimed at the confederate lines. Longstreet gave the order and the attack began. 15,000 confederate soldiers attacked from Seminary Ridge. They charged the Union center on Cemetary Hill across a huge field. The union cannon and musket fire tore the confederates to shreds. Only a few confederate soldiers reached the union line, and they were quickly killed. The battle ended in disaster for the confederate army. The ballsy attack had cost them the battle, and the war.
There, a quick history lesson for those who really didnt know that much about Gettysburg. Hope the song has even more of an impact on you now =D

Hey, good overview of the Battle of Gettysburg. You summarized much better than I could have. But I'm gonna have to nitpick and tell you that Reynolds was a Union general. After Buford's two brigades held off something like 15-20,00 Confederates, Reynolds came in with a corps of infantry to reinforce Gettysburg. Shortly after his arrival he was shot and killed by a rebel sharpshooter.
