I'm not saying its the best bass in the world - but saying that "doom is impending" if your bass costs less than $1000 is pretty silly.

Truth. There are many good and relatively inexpensive basses to be had. And yes they won't always sound as good as their expensive counterparts but that doesn't mean they will sound bad, just not as good.
