I'm 16.. and my mixes are shit HELP

...do a video of everything you go through in the mixing process to get that "HUGE" tight tone that metal asks for.

This is like asking for 20+ years of experience all at once... no one will do that for you... sorry.

You're going to have to put in the time and learn... its a slow, frustrating and rarely rewarding process (but it can be fun too!)... enjoy.

I would REALLY like it if one of you guys could maybe do a video of everything you go through in the mixing process to get that "HUGE" tight tone that metal asks for. I have unlimited resources as far as equipment gos.. my recordings are not great.. at least compared with everyone elses on here.. ): HELP!

If you have unlimited resources then go mix on an SSL desk and report back.

Trail through the threads my friend and you'll find heaps of useful advice and tips from some of the best in the business its nice to see that such a young mind is interested in this field and wants to do well also if you ask for lesser requests some of the folks on here might not just take the piss and actually give you some very useful advice :-) perseverance is key, stick at it you'll learn a lot and at your age you've got all the time in the world buddy.

Judging from the photos from your myspace page, you sure do have "unlimited" resources:goggly:

No matter your age.
Doing a good mix is very easy, even a 14 years old child could do it.
All you need is presets and samples like Sneaps C4 preset, Sneap Snare, Sturgis Pod presets, and your mixes will sound profesional.

Don't forget plugins like EZmixing, EZmaster, EZBigTone... and stuff like that.

Does anyone have a preset for dedication attitude? ;)

Read a lot in this forum -> try, fail, try again, get better, fail harder etc....
thats the best way to learn IMHO

It's anyway useless to post such general request as you did because nobody knows where to help exactly.
Just my 2 cents of course.

Edit because the first comment was pointless:

Age doesn't matter. What matters is that you can actually hear what's going on. Use your ears. Don't go by presets that people use because honestly, they probably won't really be the best for your mix/situation. Spend time turning knobs, moving sliders, setting different levels and LISTEN to what it all does. When you learn first hand, you interpret what it does and it will stick with you.

To ask for a general mass accumulation of recording knowledge is asking the equivalent of the history of a nation. You made the right step in getting to this forum, now take every spare minute you have and read every thread on here. I make myself, when I am taking a break from school or writing/mixing/recording to read on here, at least browse different info, even if you aren't familiar with the topic, or it doesn't apply to you. Yah, I'm not having problems with outboard gear right now, but I promise you that I will eventually want to step up to some outboard compressors, etc. You'll learn pretty quickly who knows what they are talking about on here. But I can't stress enough about learning as much as you possibly can. Learn to view mixes in a different way with a different mindset. Learn to appreciate all things having to do with music, as, if they weren't important, they wouldn't exist.

Learn basic electronic principles, so you know why you are plugging something into a preamp as opposed to a line in. (I need to brush up on that :\ )

Yah, so um, get to reading and remember to use your ears.

ps. Have a goal in your mind before you even track scratch tracks. Know the band, know their attitude, know what you want to make them sound like. Even before you record one thing. If you meander your way through tracking you'll end up with the same mediocre sound. Get it right before it even goes in.

way to ruin the fucking kids dreams,

brohammeth, just read, and start reading on evverything, like fucking everything, and start listening to tons of cds and just practice man

start looking into sample replacement, for now and not micing your amps till you get legit gear, so ampsims are really helpfull to you right now can you edit drums yet? look into that

the dude is only 16 so lets not be too harsh on him. i can guarantee i was asking dumb questions on forums at that age.

tbh man, just read and learn as much as you can about things and always try and find an area of your work to improve on. one of those things that takes years to get better at.
