NIGHTWISH & RAGE - Headline ProgPower USA

ATLANTA – Finland’s Nightwish and Germany’s Rage have been confirmed to make their American debuts as headliners of ProgPower USA IV, which returns to Atlanta’s Earthlink Live on September 5 and 6.

“It is always exciting for us as a band to take on new areas and see how our stuff goes down there,” said Nightwish’s Marco Hietala. “This time it’s also quite flattering because we know that the USA and Great Britain are very hard places to win when you come from out of their native language areas, and to play as a headliner for our first time ever in the US... Wow, we’ll do our best!”

After two decades together, Rage will make their long overdue first appearance on U.S. soil. “It’s great that Rage will play the ProgPower festival this year,” said Peavy Wagner. “Finally, after all these years, we can rock the U.S. Metal heads. It’s gonna be fantastic.”

Joining Nightwish and Rage, which will both perform exclusively at ProgPower USA IV, are New Jersey’s Symphony X, Sweden’s Evergrey, Florida’s Circle II Circle, Germany’s Vanden Plas, Italy’s Secret Sphere, Denmark’s Mercenary, Norway’s Pagan’s Mind, and California’s Redemption, which now features vocalist Corey Brown, formerly of Magnitude Nine and Psycho Drama.

ProgPower IV will be the U.S. debuts for Vanden Plas, Secret Sphere, Mercenary, and Pagan’s Mind.

“I’m very excited about performing at the ProgPower festival this year,” said former Savatage vocalist Zack Stevens, who currently fronts Circle II Circle. “It’s well known as one of the best metal festivals - even Ozzfest doesn’t showcase the ‘best metal bands’ from America and Europe!”

Tickets for ProgPower IV go on sale May 5 at 10 a.m. EST via all Ticketmaster outlets. Advance “Gold Badge” tickets are already sold out. Only 800 tickets will be made available to the public.

Last year’s festival - which featured Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Angra, Edguy, Threshold, Pain of Salvation, Devin Townsend, Silent Force, Zero Hour, and Reading Zero - sold out in just six days, four months in advance of the show. Tickets were sold to 36 States and 18 countries as far away as Japan.

ProgPower USA is an affiliate of the ProgPower Europe Festival.

Sponsorship and advertisement opportunities are available via the ProgPower USA website and official program. A free CD sampler will be distributed to attendees. Interested bands should contact ProgPower USA.

BEHEMOTH invade North American shores

Poland’s metal kings invade North American shores

Video For “As Above So Below” added to MTV2’s Extreme Rock

Poland has a new flourishing export by the name of BEHEMOTH. Whatever you may think of the black/death metal genre as a whole, BEHEMOTH will soon command your full attention with its apocalyptic and monstrous sound. They are set to make their first U.S. appearance this spring at the March Metal Meltdown in Irvington, NJ on March 9th, leading straight into a full-scale U.S. tour with death metal titans Deicide and Amon Amarth. This package is about extreme as it gets, and none shall be safe from its wrath.

Known for their complex arrangements and sheer musical technicality, BEHEMOTH are a band that extreme metal fans will embrace with open arms. Zos Kia Cultus (Here and Beyond) presents trademark hyper-technical guitar shredding from the duo of Nergal and Havoc, along with the ear-splitting skin-bashing of Inferno. With bands such as Cradle Of Filth quickly becoming mainstream darlings, it looks as if BEHEMOTH are poised to hold of the underground crown that has since been abdicated. The world is slowly coming around to noticing this band, and once they make their mark on U.S. soil, all will be left chanting their name.

The press raves continue to pour in and for interviews, reviews, ticket requests or any other information regarding BEHEMOTH feel free to contact me anytime. Also, catch their new video for “As Above So Below” on MTV2’s Extreme Rock starting this month.

Behemoth’s new album, Zos Kia Cultus (Here and Beyond), is a completely intense death metal affair, but with their unique blackened, atmospheric approach. Behemoth are poised to be the most talked about extreme band. -Metal Maniacs Feb. 2003

Though some passages are certainly technical, Zos Kia Cultus (Here and Beyond) isn't the type of recording beholden to numbing flourishes and dense, overlong histrionics. It's a visceral attack that's extraordinarily well-executed. -Orlando Weekly Feb. 2003

JUDAS PRIEST - Live In London CD

HEAVY METAL PIONEERS JUDAS PRIEST TO ISSUE DOUBLE CD
'LIVE IN LONDON' ON SPV RECORDS ON APRIL 8, 2003

SPECIAL FEATURES INCLUDE BONUS TRACKS, DELUXE PACKAGING, DVD EXCERPTS AND MORE

The very name Judas Priest conjures immediate respect from heavy metal fans worldwide. True heavy metal evolved from the groundbreaking work of Judas Priest 30 years ago. The double CD 'Live in London' is testimony to the band's staggering legacy.

The 25-song 'Live in London' double CD will be released on SPV Records on April 8, 2003. It's a companion to the identically titled, best-selling DVD from last year, but the double CD has several special features.

Vocalist Ripper Owens, lead guitarist Glenn Tipton, lead guitarist K.K. Downing, bass guitarist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis recorded 'Live in London' at a special concert at Brixton Academy in London on December 19, 2001. The double CD contains additional songs, therefore offering a more complete account of the show. Judas Priest cranked out new songs and the classics at the Brixton Academy, but the band also performed many rarely played cuts, making 'Live in London' a career-spanning treat for fans.

'Live in London' is packaged in a deluxe slipcase, and excerpts from the DVD are included as a CD Extra track.

The complete track listing for the 'Live in London' double CD is as follows: "Metal Gods," "Heading Out to the Highway," "Grinder," "Touch of Evil," "Blood Stained," "Victim of Changes," "The Sentinel," "One on One," "Running Wild," "Ripper," "Diamonds & Rust," "Feed on Me," "Green Manalishi," "Beyond the Realms of Death," "Burn in Hell," "Hell is Home," "Breaking the Law," "Desert Plains," "You've Got Another Thing Coming," "Turbo Lover," "Painkiller," "Hellion/Electric Eye," "United," "Living After Midnight" and "Hell Bent for Leather."

'Live in London' simply offers further proof of the pulverizing power of the mighty Judas Priest.

Tobi recently took the time to write down his thoughts and the latest news out of the weird world of Edguy; enjoy!

"Here I am to give you some updates on our beloved Metal machinery of Edguy / Avantasia. First of all, I really wanna thank you for having put my little baby Avantasia to the top of all sales lists again. I hope you're happy with the album as much as I am, I've been giving my best to record an intensive, anti-fast-food but still meat-and-potatoes-art-rock, bombastic metal or whatever you call it - honest album! It was great to remember all those business-office-seat-farters, "good advice" that it doesn't make sense to record, "another old fashioned concept opera album", whatever. To them: Fuck you! Seen that?! Here we go... Thanx brothers! And I remember the same people telling us that it is quite unfashionable to release a live album. I do not really know if I am right, but my understanding of rock and roll is to do whatever you feel has to be done. And as long as you really want to do something it shall be done.

So we wanted to record this double live album which has been finished now. It's mixed and mastered. And we are really proud of it. To make it something special and not just a little release in between two "real" albums, we've spent shitloads of money to record most of the European shows in high quality and mixed almost one month, three times longer than we've ever done for a studio album. Of course we have more than 100 minutes of material, e.g. a great 15 minute version of The Pharaoh and some really funny sing-a-long games (of course, again, I might be the only one thinking they're funny, but no matter how boring my bandmates thought they were, I fought them to get 'em on the album, or as Ozzy said: "I'm a Rock and roll rebel!" And along to the double live album, you will get a photo booklet featuring well over 100 pictures taken on the tour, backstage, onstage, sightseeing, and partying. It's gonna be a trip behind the scenes. And we hope you have as much fun studying the pictures as we had when remembering all those great moments on tour:

Playing to over 30.000 people in Wacken, feeding kangaroos in Australia, visiting ancient temples in Japan, letting our light engineer's furniture disappear from a Swedish hotel room, visiting the Red Square in Moscow or getting drunk in a few of those places. However, you made this all possible and we are looking forward to share those memories with you guys on this live album, coming out in May. It's really a great one in our opinion.
And besides that, be sure that we work on new material, but we won't tell you too much about that now. Only that we will have some huge surprises for you (it's gonna be 100% jazz, hahaha... just kidding). We'll let you know about it as soon as possible."

Have fun, and thank you all...
Cheeerzz, Tobias! "

HATE ETERNAL in vehicle crash, tour Stopped !

Hate Eternal were involved in a van accident on Saturday night in Wisconsin en route to a show on their headlining tour with Dying Fetus, Kataklysm, and Into Eternity. Hate Eternal's van slid on a patch of black ice on the highway and hit a tree, causing their trailer to swing around and impact the van. No other vehicles were involved in the accident, though there were other accidents on the same stretch of road that night. The accident totalled Hate Eternal's van. Frontman Erik Rutan sustained injuries, including whiplash and a cracked vertebrae. The other members of the band and the tour manager walked away without injuries.
Rutan has been released from the hospital and will be returning home to Florida to recover. Rutan made this statement: "
All the shows on this tour were great. We apologize to the fans and the promoters and we will be back as soon as possible to make up for this."

Moroccan heavy metal fans jailed!

Can you believe this bullshit?:

More than a dozen heavy metal musicians and fans have been jailed in Casablanca for moral and religious crimes, local media reported.

The 14 men, all between the ages of 22 and 35, were convicted of "acts capable of undermining the faith of a Muslim" and "possessing objects which infringe morals".

Their sentences of between one month and one year followed newspaper pieces which dubbed them "Satanists" involved in international devil-worship.

Nine of the convicted men were in three Moroccan heavy metal groups Nekros, Infected Brain and Reborn.

The case has highlighted concerns that the country's authorities are totally out of touch with young people.

French-language weekly magazine TelQuel particularly rounded on the judge for saying "normal people go to concerts in a suit and tie", not a black T-shirt with heavy-metal symbols that the court saw.

The judge was also pilloried for being suspicious that one of those convicted preferred to write English song lyrics.

Driss Ksikes, chief editor at TelQuel magazine, said: "Morocco's young people will not feel at home in their own country. Our judicial system needs psychologists if they don't understand that young people are by essence subversive and like to shock."

The sentences were also condemned by friends, families and teachers, who said older establishment figures were unable to understand this particular area of youth culture.

Soumayah Kortbi, whose 31-year-old brother Ayoub Kortbi was sentenced to three months, said: "I am disappointed with justice in my country. It is as though the court did not take the trouble to find out the facts."

The harsh sentences will also raise concerns among many in Morocco at a time when there are also fears that Islamist politicians are becoming stronger.
Journalist's anger Morocco's legal system allows a maximum sentence of three years for trying to convert a Muslim to another faith.

The investigation into the men is said to have been sparked by an interview with a 21-year-old female heavy metal fan printed in the weekly As-Sahifa last July.

Journalist Nourredine Ben Malik said he opposed the sentences utterly.

"There was no solid argument behind them, and I've signed a petition saying as much.

"These are just young people who like a certain kind of music. If there is a problem with their thinking it is not a matter for the courts but for their families, political parties and society."

RHAPSODY signs with SPV

"After the signing of Sepultura, The Who, Life Of Agony and Iced Earth SPV is proud to announce the signing of the symphonic metal group RHAPSODY.

In the past SPV have been the distribution company for all of the RHAPSODY albums but now RHAPSODY will appear on SPV's own label "Steamhammer" through a special arrangement with 'Magic Cirlce Music'.

In a recent quote from Manfred Schütz, SPV's Managing Director "RHAPSODY have made a great name of themselves all over the world. We intend to continue in the SPV tradition of world wide support for our groups, and to bring RHAPSODY's sound into the hearts and homes of all metal fans. We are also looking forward to working with RHAPSODY's new Management team who also represent MANOWAR."

The next opus from RHAPSODY will be self produced by Luca Turilli and Alex Staropoli and is planned for release by the end of this year. "
