I have no idea. Seriously. I was gone for a couple of days. I came back today and I saw 4 or 5 regulars banned.

I wonder if it was because of racism? The ones you mentioned were posting in a thread about "pet peeves" or something, and they were being openly racist. I reported one post and the thread is no more. I wonder...?

If that was the reason, congratulations to the mod that did it. No forum should be a safe haven for this kind of behavior, not even COBOT, where everything is considered fine if done "for the lulz".
