I'm thinking of starting a blog/journal

but where to start? I have a diary on DailyKos but I want to be able to do more than just post text.

hmm, well

i would say you should keep a blog/journal only for yourself, and not worry about an audience. audiences may or may not materialize, but either way, it should be okay with you.

if you wait until i get around for paying for livejournal, i'll give you an LJ code (you generate tons when you actually pay). but the one free code i got with my free journal has long since been used.

I get all fired up about something like this and then I lose interest.

well, that wouldn't make you much different from 75% of livejournal users. the site is littered with abandoned journals.

also, I enjoy writing, but sometimes am very critical of what I write. I would indeed have to treat it as an excercise solely for my own edification.

then.....there's the fact that this board is virtually a multi-user journal. I mean, we're always exchanging stories about what we ate and the consistency of our droppings, the occasional political rant.....

the problem with boards is that they're not archival, and you also post on the presumption that your post is at least marginally interesting. i like LJ because i can post boring accounts of my day and not care if they're boring or full of obscure and unexplained references and people, because they're for ME. and they'll be there in five or ten years so i can look back and see what i was like.
