Imagine: An Album Specially Mastered for iTunes...

I don't see how this is a bad idea. Even if you think itunes sounds bad, isn't improving it still.....improvement?
I'm all about lossless, but I like the idea of maximizing your material's fidelity and not simply waiting for Apple to improve/expand their format options.
There is no doubt that this is also a marketing ploy but that doesn't mean it isn't a good idea.

SOLVED
Not if you want access to the largest music store in the world (iTunes). They are (theoretically) making the most of the current situation where the number one music distribution channel in the world is 256 AAC. Sure there are other distribution options that offer higher res files but that simply isn't the point.

Maybe this particular case is straight up BS marketing but fundamentally I think it's hard for anyone serious about audio to not want to make the most of whatever the delivery format is. Game audio guys have been doing it for years and really AAC/MP3 is the first music format that didn't automatically get it's own master when budgets allowed--- vinyl, cassette, CD?

By all means, EVERYONE should write apple and tell them to sell lossless but until that happens IMO we should make the current format sound the best we possibly can (and petition the companies in charge) instead of simply lamenting the state of things.

Please excuse my ignorance... But how exactly does one master for iTunes??? All I can imagine is constricting bandwidth to limit the destruction that is done converting to a lossy format... So it's going to sound worse off the get go... Not bad in general, good for iTunes but then worse again to the album/ cd???

In a nutshell yes, so basically they'll offer 2 versions, the CD and the iTunes one. I find this pretty stupid anyway but wtv

Its not like It matters, it will still sounds like shit in a lossless format because Rubin is deaf as shit and brickwalls everything to hell an back on every mix he does yet tries to talk like he is some high class cultured audiophile. Yeah sure dude!
