Impaled – The Last Gasp

FUCK YEAH! Another Impaled release. I happen to be a big fan of these Bay Area gore fiends. I’m actually wearing my Death After Life hoodie right now. Few bands can match their infectious groove filled death metal. I’m not quite sure how they do it, but they manage to write brutal music that makes me smile instead of want to kill people. Or maybe kill people with a smile. This is Impaled’s fourth full length release, and it’s a brutal one. It has everything we have come to know and love from Impaled; great riffs, haunting melodies, and amazing lyrics that some how perfectly mix medicine with society. I’m not much for lyrics, but I have to give Dr.’s Sewage and McGrath credit, because they have done a great job. There are some additions in the vocals department though. Some of the low growls are really gurgly, in a grind fashion, and we also get some shouts in the song 'G.O.R.E.' that really reminds me of Gwar. Those are the only stylistic differences though. The rest of the album is similar to Mondo Medicale and Death After Life.
I’m usually able to write pretty detailed reviews, but I don’t think much else can be said. It’s a great release. Go buy it, or else you might be the next patient at St. Julien’s.
