How can I tell whether I should be using a pre-amp only or not with impulses I've downloaded on the worldwideinterweb and Revalver?

Whatever sounds best man. I've tried just using the preamp modules in MKIII into the RIR module but so far my favorite sounds have been with the full amp modules. I mean...it should make sense to use just the preamp modules since impulses capture the power section as well...but for some reason I'm liking the full amp modules into the impulses, sounds more full to me.
