Another useless, worthless post from me......OK, so the wife I went to see In Flames and Arch Enemy in St. Louis last night w/ A Dozen Furies and Gizmachi and some shitty local band. Review:

Gizmachi played 30 minutes....couldn't wait for them to get over. Their rhythm guitar player had a better voice than the annoying, screaming singer.

A Dozen Furies played 30 minutes and I was surprised at how good they were. This was the band that won the Battle for Ozzfest last year. They were tight and their singer--although he looks like (completely bald) he sings much better. Screams and sings, I should say. Not bad at all.

Arch Enemy---ugh....I like Arch Enemy and last saw them 5 years ago before Angela was their singer. Both guitarists played through Krank amps and the tone was horrible. I mean shit. The replacement guitar player's tone sounded like a bass guitar and couldn't be heard half the time. Angela's voice was thick with effects and Amott looked completely bored. Hell, we were bored! I was completely disappointed in them.

In Flames--they also played Krank Amps (which I'm beginning to fucking hate). Their tone was way too trebley (is that a word?) but they were much more exciting to watch than AE. I hadn't seen IF since I saw them with Iced Earth (I know I know) back when MAtt Barlow sang on his last album. IF were good as usual although they're drawing the fucking mallcore kids now who only wanted to hear Trigger and My Sweet Shadow. Grrr. But they did play a lot of cool old shit from The Jester Race, Whoracle, and Colony. Hell, they even pulled a kid up on stage and asked him to sing Bullet Ride from Clayman. That was pretty fucking comical. The dude totally didn't know the words but the band kicked ass anyway.

All in all, it was worth it to see In Flames. I know there are a ton of In Flames bashers around here, but I still dig this band on a certain guilty pleasure type of level. Anyway, it's the best I can do until Nevermore rolls around again. :)

HAHAHA and you get to hear nevermore through KRANK amps as well.

These Krank guys must have the most amazing PR guys in the world....because all the people I talk to who have actually played a Krank amp have said they suck..or have heard them being played. But all these Metal bands are endorsing them like there's no such thing as Engl or Mesa/Boogie. WTF.

the guitarist replacing Chris Amott this summer is Gus. G he played all of the leads on Dream Evil's Dragonslayer album. He's also in Firewind, and he's on a NIghtrage album as well. good player, too bad KRank amps tend to make you sound shitty.

Same here about the Krank amps, I've heard about them ruining several bands' live tone as well. Go to harmonycentral.com and see what happens if you mention krank...
I'm happy to have my Engl, Krank can eat one.

Where did Chris go? Another Armageddon album maybe? *Rubs hands together* Good... good.

He finished recording Doomsday Machine then promptly took a "hiatus" from the band and claims he wants to finish his schooling.

I agree with the shitty stage presence/sound for Arch Enemy. I saw them a few years ago and was completely disapointed with their live show (and my expectations weren't that high to begin with) but at that time everyone was just raving about them and how great they were....NOT!!!!

In Flames on the other hand always have a great live show, they are energetic and they sound really good. I will still catch them live..even though I think the last two albums BLEW, the albums before that were some of my all time faves!

For the Record...the new DVD/CD live set of In Flames is pretty damn tight. They play their shit quite well. listening to them do Artifacts is amazing.

I'm looking for a good amp for my guitar. I'm hearing Krank getting terrible reviews. Why should I not get them?

From what I've heard the Krank head is very good. I think it's the cabs that suck. If it were me and I had a few thousand buck to throw around I get the Krank head with a Mesa Boogie traditional cab. But, that's just me. Go play and decide for yourself, bro.

ive seen arch enemy live about 10 times i think. the best show i have ever been to was when i saw them in a tiny venu back in the states. there was TONS of energy and the stage was so close to us. you could reach out and grab the guitars if you wanted to. they were anything but boring then. but at the last show i saw of them, i was pretty bored, in retrospect. chris amott doesnt have a lot of stage presence. mike is cool and fun to watch though.

in flames do put on a cool live show but they need more energy as well. they hardly headbang and jesper always looks kinda bored playing.

but yea. if this were back in 1999 i would have killed to see this show.
