Another useless, worthless post from me......OK, so the wife I went to see In Flames and Arch Enemy in St. Louis last night w/ A Dozen Furies and Gizmachi and some shitty local band. Review:
Gizmachi played 30 minutes....couldn't wait for them to get over. Their rhythm guitar player had a better voice than the annoying, screaming singer.
A Dozen Furies played 30 minutes and I was surprised at how good they were. This was the band that won the Battle for Ozzfest last year. They were tight and their singer--although he looks like (completely bald) he sings much better. Screams and sings, I should say. Not bad at all.
Arch Enemy---ugh....I like Arch Enemy and last saw them 5 years ago before Angela was their singer. Both guitarists played through Krank amps and the tone was horrible. I mean shit. The replacement guitar player's tone sounded like a bass guitar and couldn't be heard half the time. Angela's voice was thick with effects and Amott looked completely bored. Hell, we were bored! I was completely disappointed in them.
In Flames--they also played Krank Amps (which I'm beginning to fucking hate). Their tone was way too trebley (is that a word?) but they were much more exciting to watch than AE. I hadn't seen IF since I saw them with Iced Earth (I know I know) back when MAtt Barlow sang on his last album. IF were good as usual although they're drawing the fucking mallcore kids now who only wanted to hear Trigger and My Sweet Shadow. Grrr. But they did play a lot of cool old shit from The Jester Race, Whoracle, and Colony. Hell, they even pulled a kid up on stage and asked him to sing Bullet Ride from Clayman. That was pretty fucking comical. The dude totally didn't know the words but the band kicked ass anyway.
All in all, it was worth it to see In Flames. I know there are a ton of In Flames bashers around here, but I still dig this band on a certain guilty pleasure type of level. Anyway, it's the best I can do until Nevermore rolls around again.
