Innocent sounding music with a sinister edge

So this is kind of a specific request. I'm looking for music, not necessarily metal, that has a generally cute and innocent sound but has a sinister feel to it. The only bands I'm aware of with this sound are The Birthday Massacre, Stolen Babies and Battle of Mice. I also like the kind of surreal "Alice in Wonderland" vibe the first two bands give off, so if you know other bands like that, I'd appreciate the recs.

Also, this is similar but slightly different, I'd like some bands with the gothic Tim Burton/Danny Elfman type sound. I know most of you will hate me for saying this, but the closest sound to this I can find is Evanescence.

Female vocals are preferred in both cases but I'm open to male-fronted bands.

London After Midnight? One of my all-time favourite bands. I wouldn't classify their music as "cute" but I would say it has a sense of elegance to it while retaining a very dark edge, musically and lyrically.

LAM actually covered "Sally's Song."

A slower song "Carry On...Screaming (Ruins)" from the more dance-able album Psycho Magnet:

A classic and fan-favourite "(Your Best) Nightmare" from the debut album Selected Scenes From the End of the World.

Perhaps the experimental deathrock band Cinema Strange? I think they're fantastic but they're sort of hit and miss with people because of the over-the-top vocals.

^Glad you like those bands.

You might also like Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble of Shadows.. Not exactly a "cute" figure but Anna-Varney has certainly lightened up a fair bit the last few years, showing a sense of humour. Some of the earlier material I would probably say is some of the darkest and atmospheric music I've heard, particularly on a visual and conceptual level. There's a strong classical sound, but it's all done in a very dark, gothic manner. It's not contrived of false in any way though, there's a very true underlying darkness integral to Sopor Aeternus.

From the album Les Fleurs des Mal:

Here is a video made for the most recent EP. My favourite part begins around the 7 minute mark, after a peaceful part, it reaches a climax around the 8 minute mark. The lyrics also have a dual meaning.

And here is a much darker video made:

Before I even entered this thread, just seeing the title, I was already going to suggest The Birthday Massacre. Sorry I don't know of others (maybe Inkubus Sukkubus??) but nice choice on them!

This is not metal, some gothic ballads, but I'm sure it qualifies for this topic!
