I just bought a BC Rich V and next week I'm going to have EMGs installed. He said he'd sell be both EMGs, plus installation for $220. Good deal, or bad deal?

hmmm, depends on which EMG's he'll install. EMG hz i think, right?
The complicated and expensive thing with EMG's is, that they are active-pickups. So they need a battery. And the battery needs extra space inside of the guitar. Most guitars don't have that extra space inside of the body, so a bit of the body has to be taken out of the guitar.
I heard that this is not the hell of a complicated work. But i wouldn't make it by myself, so i think that the deal isn't that bad.

The EMG HZ's are passive pickups. I haven't tried them myself, but the general opinion on them seem to be that they suck. The 81/85 are active - great pickups.

I've installed EMG's in a lot of different guitars (and basses) and I've never had any problems of fitting the battery. Just make sure to have some foam wrapped around keep it insulated from the electronics, then put it into the control cavity and close it up. You might have trouble if you want to run two batteries in series and the control cavity is very tight though, but on most guitars even this shouldn't be any problem.

As for price, compared to the prices I can get here, it's a decent deal. Congrats on the new guitar! ^^ The BC-R V's look really nice. =)

Most guitars have plenty of room in the electronics cavity... The BC Rich V should have plenty of room...

ALL USA BC Rich e-cavities are set up so they can have multiple electronics boards included, don't know about the imports...

The price seems a bit steep, but if that's installed, it's not too bad.
