Hello gentlemen,

I visited an official ESP dealer today and after discussing with the manager (and some small talk on the side), I may very well be able to get a good deal on an ESP Roope model. I'll be going back to the store on Friday to test it extensively, next to a few ESP/Edwards Alexi models (one of them having a Blackout).

That said, I have 1 guitar with "real" EMGs (85/81) but have no experience with passive EMGs. How are they like compared to "real" EMGs? Are they as bad as people make it out to be?

your trying an ESP version of roopes guitar? wow!!! i had myself a LTD roope which actually maximehatecrew has it on the moment and the guitar was pretty sweet.
if you could somehow get pictures or sound recording of it would be awsome as i never saw nobody with it

as far the pickups well, passive emgs sound more natural than the emg81 (obviously). i think people created a bad opinion of the hz and i dont agree, i like the pickup
but for sure theres way better pickups out there...

I was actually looking for the LTD version for a little while until I found out that they've been discontinued.

I'll definitely take pics and/or vids. By no means am I a great player but I hope I'll do some justice to that guitar :D

When I was 15 or so I'd bag on EMGs saying they're active and blahblahblah, not organic like passives, etc. but I've eventually come to the conclusion that EMGs are like triggers for guitars, and even though I'm not a drummer, I fucking love the sound of triggered drums :D
I'm also not that big on changing pickups, mainly because I've never done it. I can always adjust my amp's EQ/effects to make it sound real good. Worse comes to worst I can always change

Edit: Played it. Best guitar I've ever played, hands down. Amazing pickup, I don't see why people bash EMG HZ's. It is freakin tight. I've played it through a Marshall TSL100 and a Diezel Herbert, fuckin a did that make my decade.
