Sometimes a cheaper guitar with EMG's works well for recording. My ESP through neck picks up everything which means string noise and sustain can be a major pain in the ass. No room for error....I have a cheaper Ibanez RGA42 with an EMG81 in the bridge only for rhythms and the aggressiveness of the 81 is slightly dulled by the bolt on neck and lesser sustain from the poorer quality wood. In a live situation though the ESP kicks its ass due to sustain and higher volumes, overall tone etc....
