Intro song on Live In Nottingham?!

Hmm, it's a good gig and well worth getting the DVD for, even if I'm sure I read somewhere that the band had little enthusiasm for it at the time.

Incidentally, I think the TV studios they are playing in on this one are the same Central TV studios at Nottingham which are currently in the national news because they are being shut down :(

I could have sworn I originally read this was part of a series where they got 1 band per week in and just filmed them for a late night TV show on ITV at Central Studios .... Saxon, Hawkwind, Gillan and loads more are all in the same series.

BUT, having just flicked through the DVD now it DOES look like Rock City from some angles. I've been going there most weeks for a few years now, and I've watched this DVD lots of times and I've never clicked before! D'oh.....

To be honest, the short answer now is that I'm not sure which it is any more. And I'm suitably intrigued if anyone does know definitively.

Im fairly sure but there was a series of programs done by Mike Mansfield productions on itv some time ago, around the innocence tour I think. It could have been that.

I think it was after the Innocence tour (they play Ride Like The Wind for one thing) but I'm still starting to think you're right.

Rock City has got Saxon listed as playing on 20 March 1990. (http://www.rock-city.co.uk/gigguide/index.pl?year=1990&view=Month&month=1&month=3) I think this was originally released as "Greatest Hits Live" or something in 1990 so it could quite easily be that.

So what I read was probably wrong, and I can't believe I never noticed it before. Wolfsbane played there the night before as well, Rock City was obviously a better place to be then than now...

If this is the same as "Greatest hits live" Video then it was filmed/recorded at Central TV studios Nottingham 13th June 1990. Think ive even still got my ticket somewhere :-)

There was a series of gigs filmed which were broadcast on Central/ITV late at night under the title "Bedrock" (sic) i think. I can remember the Gillan show being broadcast ,but cannot remember seeing the Saxon show. Maybe with Saxon they had a deal where instead they released the show.

It was a good gig, but certainly a strange atmosphere being in the TV studios.

Yep, there is something in the DVD packaging about being part of the Bedrock series. Classic Rock Legends seem to be releasing loads of DVDs / CDs from this series.

The packaging lists titles by Wishbone Ash, Asia, Gillan, Hawkwind, Steve Howe, Lindisfarne, Sky, The Strawbs, Caravan, Rick Wakeman, Steeleye Span, Saxon, Gong, Night of the Guitars, Hatfield and the North and LOADS of different titles by Uriah Heep.

Don't mind admitting there's a couple in there I've never even HEARD of!

Thanks for the info.

Oh yeah, and maybe its worth mentioning that the only other title in the series I actually OWN is the Hawkwind one, and thats a good gig as well. Much better lighting (dark, atmospheric stuff) on here as well, and Hawkwind have fire breathers etc which adds a bit of variety.

Maybe some of the others will be worth picking up eventually as well.
