Iron Maiden- 3/14/08 in NJ

GREAT show! It took me back 20 years (which I guess is the idea). Maiden has lately played the 3,000 seat stadium in my area. Last night, they sold out 20,000+ seats. The place wa packed. They had an amazing stage set - lights, pyro, props, costumes, and Eddie of course. The band sounded great, and Dickinson (as I've said before) must have traded his long hair for a drink from the fountain of youth. Just a flat out fun show.

I ran into Zod (& his lovely wife), the other Dark One, Ambr, and other PPers. I also learned that I couldn't complain about my 1 hr 40 min drive from Philly since people showed up from Florida and Minnesota!

All in all, a great show. I plan to catch it again when they swing back to Philly (well, South Jersey, but same thing).

Was great seeing you, Greg, Paula and everyone else. Could hardly walk 20 feet without running into someone I knew. Excellent show, great time! Loved the set list. Definitely brought back great memories.

People came from Minnesota???????? WTF!!??? Um....they always play Chicago which is somewhat closer people!1!
Well if the Chicago date was during the week, I can understand why folks may not have traveled for it. Have this show on a Friday made it a lot easier for folks to travel for. Had I had to work today, I probably would not have driven with my friends almost 4 hours to and from Jersey. I wouldn't have gotten home til it was nearly time to go to work the next morning. I'm not sure how far MN is from Chicago, but I'd imagine the situation would be a similar one.

Damn! I missed you all. We hit a lot of traffic on the way up there, particularly coming through Baltimore. We had a friend who had to work in VA that morning and was driving up separately (about an hour behind us) got all the way to the venue and drove around the parking lot for 45 mins, because no one would let him park - so he drove home. That's a lot of money wasted (ticket, gas, tolls, etc). I don't think he should have gone home but he did seem to feel like he had another choice. No offense to anyone from Jersey, but that Stadium(s) lot is set up like puzzle after a kid with down syndrome played with it, and the parking staff was fucking awful (as was the merch staff, who was both slow as shit and actually refused to give Nick service at one point because the jackass behind the counter was too busy talking to some chick, but that's a seperate issue). There is tons of construction going on, barely any signage to direct you and the signage I did see, you could barely read at night because it was super reflective. Then when we were leaving I asked one of the parking attendants which was the best way to leave if we wanted to get back to 95 S. The parking lot was not backed up at that point so he could have easily pointed me in another direction. He just told me to follow the line of cars I was in, which I did, and I ended up heading West on RT 3, which was heading in the direction away from the NJ Turnpike and thus the opposite direction from 95 S. Thankfully I realized this pretty quickly and got us turned around the right way. The venue was great for the audio aspect of a live show, but everything else about it really sucked as IMO.

Welcome to NJ. :erk: Unfortunately, your experience was not an anomaly. I'm very familiar with the whole Meadowlands complex and I was totally baffled by the construction. I actually circled the arena three full times before I found the lot I was looking for. I was meeting a friend who was taking the bus in from NYC and had to meet in a certain place. The lot attendants were very nice, but not very helpful. The ones I talked to after the show were surly and short. As I said, I'm VERY familiar with the complex but still get twisted around trying to find the TPK south.

As for the venue staff, they always suck. Total, "I'm in control; I hate this job; don't give me shit." NJ attitude and they are paid WELL. There is no excuse for their b.s. I paid a LOT for some fries and chicken and it was old and stale. Thankfully, I was in one of the boxes, so beer was free, but I was driving anyway, so didn't have much. The suites are no where near the quality of Madison Square Garden and the whole place reminds me of a big gymnasium, though you're right, the sound is very good. Hopefully, all the rennovations will make a big difference, though I suspect prices will be the most noticeable.

SICK ASS SHOW...question. The show started with the lights dimming, and 2 tracks came on. They were recordings. I didnt recognize the first song. The first song from the 2 recorded songs they played, its an awesome song I never heard. Nobody can answer this question.....maybe some here can...

"Doctor Doctor" by UFO, they play this song over the PA before they take the stage at every single show. Great song, I love it. Maiden was heavily influenced by UFO, they are all big fans. They covered that song I believe when Blaze was in the band. It is on their box set.

Was there a date for the first leg of the tour in Chicago? I don't recall seeing one listed. The Chicago date on the second leg (North American leg) wasn't confirmed until after the show (despite the false dates that you originally posted at the end of February).

Driving from Minneapolis to Chicago is about 6-7 hours. If you are heading to the south (Mokena, Tinley Park) it is 7-8 hours. The Chicago date for Iron Maiden is on a Wednesday. That would use 2 vacation days for a person driving 6-7 hours. The New Jersey date was on a Friday. Only one vacation date would have to be used.

AMAZING show my best friend and I came up from VA. Anybody know what song they where playing at the end sounded like Bruce singing a Sinatra song?

I wasn't paying enough attention at the time, but that could very well have been what it was. Bruce is coming to the Meadowlands in a few months, he's pretty popular with the Jersey crowd (go figure, right?! haha ... although maybe not so much with the Jersey metal crowd as they were playing it as part of the "get out" music) and I know on one of his more recent previous tours (close to around the time Sinatra died I think) Bruce did cover a Sinatra song or two (Angel Eyes was one if I remember correctly). I realize this isn't a definitive answer, but hope it helps.

Bobbie I am at a loss to what song it is? Are you going to Doro fri. at Jaxx?
I will be indeed. (How did you guess? ;)) With bells ... err... patches on! (Nick and I will be there early in an attempt to treat Doro, Nick, Johnny and the rest of the band/crew to dinner.) Just say hi, pull me aside, whatever, if you see me.

Although I'm not sure how helpful I will be. My Springsteen knowledge is great. My Sinatra knowledge is probably less than fair.

I'm guessing you mean Bruce Dickinson and not Bruce Springsteen, correct? I don't remember hearing any Springsteen that night, LOL! :goggly:

The song is from Monty Python's "The Life of Brian" and is called "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life."

Hope that solves the mystery!
