I still can't get used to the phrase "beer garden". But I guess it sounds better than "alchoholic beverage quarantine quadrant". Or the "alchoholic arena".

"Beer garden" is actually a correct phrase, and it's quite old. I've spent the past two years studying beer history at school, and it's really interesting how the beer industry was incorporated into the daily fabric of family social life with huge beer gardens owned by breweries with theme parks. Beer gardens hosted family-oriented social events daily (and huge ones on the weekends) until Prohibition. After that, the traditional beer garden never returned. Nowadays, what is called a beer garden is actually like you said - a separate area (outdoors, usually) for just drinking beer without intermingling in the all ages area. It's still a correct term, but it's a sad truth of our society and how we demonize drinking alcohol instead gracefully accepting it and promoting responsibility.I still can't get used to the phrase "beer garden".
