Is it worth mic'ing up in stereo?

Hi all, just wondering, is it worth micing up a mono amp (1 speaker) with 2 SM57 mics? I guess it would be a bit stupid wouldnt it as it will effectively just double the sound?

IMO, it's definitely worth using more than one mic on one speaker. Placing each mic in two different places on the speaker gives you the ability to mix the different tonal colors obtained via their placement, allowing for a very cool sound. Just read some of the 'Clayman' thread for more details.

Yeah, but are you confusing multiple micing with stereo micing? They're not necessarily the same thing.
