This is not to pick on you Hawk :loco:

Many oldschoolers feel Roth, Schenker and Hoffmann are THE teutonic Gods, but I don't consider Jabs to be too far behind. In the mid/late 80's The Scorps got a little boring to me, but they still had a few releases with Jabs that ripped and I really don't see why he is considered an inferior guitarist. I would give my right testicle to play like Jabs and I think he is incredible. Are there any other Jabs fans out there ?

 don't worry about it we don't have to like the same music.
Ha ha ha as I said, this wasn't directed to you. Of all places it was a prog forum that made me think of this post. I think Jabs rips.... you don't. It's not a big deal, but I am curious how many like Jabs.

I always thought Jabs was under rated, very tasteful and melodic. He plays the kind of solos that get stuck in your head, the kind you hum along to as you listen to the songs.

Cool !! Sorry I was late in replying. As if I aven't said it enough, Wolf is my fave of all guitarists, much less the Germans, but I am frankly amazed with Jabs' work as well. He is in my top ten guitarists of all time as well. It's not as much his solos, buthis fills he throws in (also a credit to Dieter Dirks producer) to the songs. I like "busy" music and with Dieter and Matthias on board, the guitar was verty busy.

Well Bryant, if you have Roth...Jabs will forever be in his shadow, he's good as hell, underrated? yes! But Uli.....
The whole point of this tread as I understand it is to judge Jabs on his own merrits. Not compare him to others...

Hey its cool, I did not mean to reprimand you :) I was just curious what you though of Jabs on his own merrits.

Ok....Jabs....Hmmm...good player but something is missing, I never did like The Scorps, with him. But if you take his playing and don't listen to the songs, he's as many others a great player but he lack the "mojo"?

The reason why Jabs is "underrated" is .. that there is not reason to be considered "elite". He didnt do anything special. Roth and Schenker obviously did a lot more, so its strange .. if you call them "ELITE" how can you put Jabs into this category too?

I like Jabs a lot but I generally prefer understated playing anyway. Good as people like Clapton, Vai and UJR are they do absolutely nothing for me.

Did Jabs ever wrote a very good song for Scorpions?
Nope I don't think he did, unless it was something after "Savage Amusement" where I stopped listening to them. I don't "write" music either. I am a technician and take extremely simple song structures and make them better more often than not.

Ahhhhh! My boyz!!! I've always felt Matthias gets under-rated as a guitarist. Playing in the Scorps where there has always been awesome guitarists.... UJR, Michael and Rudolf Schenker. Matthias holds his own IMO and is a kick-ass player! He has stayed with the band through thick and thin though he may not be much of a writer like Schenker, he puts together some killer solos! I've always enjoyed their double lead playing! Those boys do compliment each other! Watching him play is still mesmorizing! o_O (I'm not a musician so no technical terms for me)

Matthias has written and co-written some songs since Savage Amusement and they are: from Crazy World the music to "Tease me, Please me" and all the music and co-wrote lyrics on "Money and Fame."

From Face the Heat he collaborated with Hudson and Meine on "Nightmare Avenue."

From Eye to Eye he collaborated with Schenker and Rieckermann for music to "Mystreious" and he and Schenker composed all music for "Du bist so schmutizig" (you're so dirty.)

And for the latest release Unbreakable he and Klaus did the lyrics for "Deep and Dark" and Matthias did all music and lyrics for "This Time".

Cool !! Great to see a few Jabs fans here. From a writing standpoint, I don't think Jabs is up to the other teutonic greats like Roth, M. Schenker and Hoffmann, but as a soloist and at fills, he is a technician who can hold his own against practically anyone in my ears. "Savage Amusement" in particular, is an amazing "guitar" release due to Jabs, Schenker and Dirks. Dieter Dirks (producer) added all of those "hidden" guitar fills like he did with Accept's "Metal Heart." Matt and Rudy were hard to beat up on that release.

I love Jabs. Really his albums with the Scorpions up through "Love at First Sting" are collectively as good as anything they EVER put out, IMHO. M. Schenker was brilliant, but a huge loose cannon and Roth is terrific, but some of that stuff was up and down. I love Roth's stuff, don't get me wrong. But Jabs is great. No doubt about it.
