I have heard this rummor, and i wanted to ask if it is true...
if not, will they be comming any other time?

you'll make hundreds if not thousands of fans happy!

How often do Opeth tour around the Middle East area, anyway?

I recall them playing tracks from Damnation in a certain country a while back... apparently it was the first metal band to be allowed to play a show there and it was a really big deal.

I've no idea myself, but for curiosity's sake, what other bands have come through Israel?

samael will come to israel on 28.12..
dio was come to israel in 29.10

i heard that rumour from someone who's in that buisness, and knows what he says, never mind who since he's pretty famous here.

and israel's not like jordan, we have LOTS of metal bands, the more famous ones are orphaned land, salem, betzefer and melechesh. the metal scene in israel is alive and kickin`.

as said before samael will be here next month, Dio have been here last month, and we allso enjoyed gigs from Megadeth, Metallica, Vader, Edguy, Darkane, Destruction and many many more.
Hopefully opeth will join that list soon :)

How are the bands and fans viewed by Israeli society? In such a pious country, I would think it wouldn't be positive due to the negative stereotype of metal.

I don't think that every citizen of Israel is known for their piety, not everyone walking the streets of the country is a Rabbi. I'm sure there are plenty of Hebrews that abide under Judaism, however, I don't believe that everyone is a zealot.

There is a massive gap of misunderstanding for many Americans concerning Israel. The media often feeds us nothing more than hyped up nonsense, and they have us believe that suicide bombers go off everyday. That isn't the case. Israel, The Holy Land, is certainly the epicenter of religion and war. The everlasting conflict between Jews and Arabs (though not even each individual is guilty of hate for the other) is vibrant in the Middle East, but it has been that way for at least 1400 years now.

Well, I'm not going any further, but everyone seems to have a misconception on Hebrews and their country that leads to many false stereotypes.
