Is there a Sneap consensus on the 5150III?

Tone is not in MY fingers

So I'm in the market for a new amp. Currently, I have nothing to play through but a Sansamp, and it's driving me batty. I was all set to plunk down the money for a 6505+, but I decided to go to a local shop to check out a few things before I made my final decision. I plugged into the new Dual Rec, and the 5150III, and I was actually pretty blown away by both of them. Now I'm REALLY undecided.

The reason I'm having such a hard time, is because the amp is going to be used almost exclusively for recording and reamping, which is difficult to test in a music store. Of the three (6505+, 5150III, Dual Rec) the one that I liked the best as far as a live 'playing' tone was the 5150III. But I'm having a hard time trying to figer out which one will give me the best raw recording tone? I have some experience recoding the Recto and the 6505, but I've never recorded a 5150III.

I know this is pretty subjective, but I'd appreciate any opinions that you guys might have. I'll be using it mostly for old school thrash / hardcore rythm stuff (think 'Hatebreed' meets 'Sick of It All' meets old school 'Sepultura').

Thanks

Bobby

should probably work pretty damn well for that sort of thing,
Hatebreed has changed over the years, from 5150's back to marshalls, and iirc Sick of it all was a duel rec with a metalzone "to tune the mids" (FUUUUU) but I'm pretty sure that word on the street is that they're sick amps.

For me (and my style of playing) the 5150 III is way better than the Dual Recto,
sounds great! And it's way cheaper new here so that's a big plus for me ;)

I think it's pretty OK. I like all of the 5150/6505 series equally, however I've found after extensive testing that the distortion on the III is not as in your face/brutal as the original series.

It's still really good and I'm going to buy one.

They'd all be fantastic. I own a dual recto and 6505+ myself, and they compliment each other nicely.

I played a 5150III in a music shop once and it gave me major GAS and I really want one of those too.

Bergstrand love it:D

I've had one for over a year now... I've said all along its better than the 6505 - now it seems everyone else who has tried both agrees. They are unreal.

I want a 5150III sooooo fucking badly it's not even funny.

Same man:erk:

Also to the OP, they were used on Gojira's The Way of All Flesh through a stock 6505 cabinet.
Sounded fucking immense in my books:rock: (hell, pretty much all aspects of the production of that album are stellar)
