Is there a Sneap consensus on the 5150III?

First off - let me say that I hate you all for fueling my GAS. I was perfectly happy living in my world where the 6505 was the king of all tone (especially at half the price of the 5153) :). But seriously, I went back to the store to check the 5153 out again last night, and I think I'm sold. Aside from the sound, which is 100% monstrous, the amp has a REALLY nice feel that makes it an amazing amp to actually play. The other big advantage of the EVH stuff is that if I hold out for a 20% coupon at Music123 of Musicians's Friend, I can pick up the head for close to $1500. The pricing on the dual rec seems to be set in stone, with nobody ever discounting it by even a penny (maybe that's a Mesa mandate?).

Anwyay - I'll try to report back and post clips as soon as I pick it up in a few weeks...

Now I just need to decide on a cab!!!

The one time I worked with one we shot it out against a Dual Rectumfrier and my XXX. The 5150III won hands down. Granted, the guitarist had his own style, not too heavy with the pick, so I'm just saying for that guy the 5150III was the best.

Anyway, yes this amp is awesome.

How would you guys say the clean is on the 5150 III? Loads better than the Peaveys I hope!

way better...it can be set clean and sparkly or even a semi dirty breakup..

For such a large high powered gain monster the clean is surprising..

it is real easy to balance volume wise with the two dirty channels ( unlike my dual recto)

Channel 2 crunch is where it's at... full on early EVH!!!

whats really cool about this amp is even the 3rd over the top channel cleans up well with your guitars volume knob!

The white ones look sick.
I don't normally dig white amps, but the 5150 III is one of those few amps I believe looks sick in white

Same man:erk:

Also to the OP, they were used on Gojira's The Way of All Flesh through a stock 6505 cabinet.
Sounded fucking immense in my books:rock: (hell, pretty much all aspects of the production of that album are stellar)

And you know this for a fact how?? it's pretty well known that they did not receive the EVH until after production on that album.

Way of All Flesh was recorded using the regular 5150/6505+ as well as their very trusty dual rec through a marshall cab combo.

And there has been lots of "talk" that they are looking to switch to Boogie since it seems the Dual Rec is what they truly enjoy.

Yeah, I've heard a ton of conflicting info about what was really used on The Way of All Flesh... nobody seems to agree...

When they played in orlando my buddy asked someone from their camp and it's basically what has been mostly reported. 6505/6505+/Dual rec through marshall cab ( a marshall amp was also mentioned)

On previous albums it was all dual rec through marshall cab (marshall amp was also used somewhat). The way of all flesh is the only time they truly recorded with the 6505 line.
