Is there any chance to get a job in the us/canada?

I'm going to Uni to have a good time moreso than to get a degree

Well that's slightly exaggerated, but with many employers rather undervalueing many qualifications, the fun part of Uni is beginning to seem like the only reason to go.

I have to disagree. College just isn't the right path for some people. College is absolutely not where I needed to be when I was 19. I'm glad I chose the path I chose, worked the shitty jobs, met the people I met, made the mistakes I made.

yeah of course, you need to work those shitty jobs to realize that when you go to college you'll get awesome jobs... with that I agree.
Now, I'm not saying you can't get good jobs without a degree, but the chances are slim............

Also, half the jobs I've ever gotten have come via word of mouth. I think that if someone with a good reputation in their place of work recommends a person to fill a particular position in that company, that means more than even a degree would. So if you know people that live in America, you could try asking them if they know of any jobs that you could be qualified for.

Also, don't hesitate to start at a very low position somewhere. When I started working where I'm at now, I was just a weekend DJ. Since then, I've worked myself into a full time position as Webmaster (and still do the wekeend DJ stuff), and I never even finished community college.

It really is true... sometimes it's all about who you know.

Good luck :)

I've never felt like my hair has hindered my ability to get a job. I take great pride in proving the longhair stereotype wrong. It works out in funny ways. I've never been discrimanted against for my hair, people that are older than me always seem to trust me and like me more than people my age or younger. I think most of that has to do with my attitude though. I don't know.

But really, long hair shouldn't detract you getting a job. I can see how some employers might freak about it and not even want to call you back because of it, but think about it: would you really want to work for that person anyways, if that's how they see it? Fuck no!

Hey John... try something for me... next time you get the opportunity, hold the door open for an older stranger when you're entering a store at the same time as them and smile and nod as they walk by. I'm not shitting you man, you'll be able to see their minds blow right inside their heads, and it feels good. Try it, if only once.

I always hold the door open for women/old people. I'm actually quite the gentlemen. :)

As far as society goes I never really have a problem having long hair. Just the damn jobs...It's making me really stressed out actually. I got hired at Pizza Hut because the manager was a friend of mine/my moms but I heard he's gone now. I absolutly will not work weekends or graveyard shifts so that cuts it down even more.

I agree Kevin, knowing the right people definitely helps with good jobs. HOWEVER: I still think a college degree is a huge plus in any job field...

Reharding long hair: DONT CUT YOUR HAIR FOR ANY JOB: EVER!!!!!!

Seriously: living in DC, I can tell you that some of my best friends are with long hair and working for the FBI, CIA, and right under the comissioner and in the white house: so don't believe in any bullshit that long hair can prevent you from getting a promotion or a good position... seriously: if you're good: then nothing matters, PERIOD!!

aww John, you're awesome! Don't ever change for anyone :)

Don't worry about the long hair... like I said: it really doesn't matter!! If you're good at something, then you'll find a good job, long hair should never be a problem!!!
stay strong. All of the friends I know that have long hair and have killer jobs never caved in and never cut it !!

and quite frankly: fuck any emplyer that doesn't look at your qualifications and only looks at your appearance!

I applied at the CIA when I had long hair and it was fine. The main issue was not being a U.S Citizen.

...exactly.

which is why I laugh at small dumb employers who tell people: "uh yeah we will hire you if you cut your hair"
fuck you, small dumb-fuck. If people work in the white house and the US Capitol with a pony tail: then you can definitely hire them too!
