I'm right in the middle of a mass Zeldathon for nostalgia's sake, and I stumbled across this:

I must have an early cartridge, because I've always played through the Fire Temple with that awesome ambient chanting, and I think it gave the temple a really great and memorable feel to it, sort of like Indiana Jones delving into a deep and dangerous cave. I'm not sure I can make out the words that are supposedly being said, people can hear voices in leaves if they want to, but I can't imagine playing this level and hearing anything different than the chanting track. Even way back when I first heard it, I thought that was really cool, and really fit the situation extremely well.

Thoughts? I just thought some might find this interesting, or be as surprised as I was.

I'm a huge OoT guy. Have logged hundreds of hours into that game. I can't say I've heard that version before but it sounds VERY familiar. Although, I got to be honest: I don't hear ANY islamic chanting or can make out anything that they're saying. You can't hear it clearly as well as he says. I don't see where's getting those words from that chanting but either way I love the Fire Temple.

Um.... what?

Why even point out the need for an Islamic influence? Are you walking streets every day pointing out how amazing it is that our buildings have Pythagorean influence, or that your turd was influenced by the burger you ate yesterday?

That chanting could just as easily be Chinese or Japanese monks chanting some shit. It could easily be a Kontakt "Voices of the archaic Vol. 6" expansion pack, with shitloads of reverb piled on it.

So erm.... what's the reason for this video, and for the retarded discussion going on in the comments about it? I dungetit.

I don't really get it either, but it was apparently enough to merit going back and issuing a revision of the game just to change the temple music to something that was boring and unremarkable, so apparently the buzz was pretty serious, somebody got offended. The chanting does sound more chinese/japanese to me personally, Islamic and other middle-Eastern chanting to me sounds like it's stylistically more pitch wavery and vocal.

There is also islamic imagery in the game. A lot of big blocks you have to push have the crescent moon and star on them!

edit: The original mirror shield had the same emblem on it.
