It´s better to record percussion on open air or on a untreated room?

I´m used to record with e-drums, but a friend of mine want me to record his latin songs demo using congas, bongos, cajón, etc. I don´t have any treated room for drums, but I can record´em open air. which option is the best?

congas/bongos/etc. don't have a huge SPL or tons of low-end boominess, so you'd probably be fine recording them in an untreated room
