Yeah.
I know GR's a decent guy.
But a number of our troops have kinda disgraced our country.
War is itself fundamentally flawed.
Yeah.

And just for future reference guys, it's pretty much never appropriate to ask a soldier if he/she has ever killed anyone. I spoke personally with a soldier who came to visit my high school once. He said that's one question that you never ask a soldier.
... because 'killing' is never a soldier's intention. many would agree that their 'duty' a lot of times asks them to silence their judgement of right/wrong a bit.and a question none will answer truthfully

Yeah, I'm not saying that every dead Iraqi citizen is the victim of ruthless slaughter by our troops. I'm saying a small number of the troops have done some shit they really shouldn't have.Well, this isn't fucking Vietnam. You get court marshaled if you accidentally kill an innocent or unarmed man. The soldiers over there live with that constantly. So if you shoot because one of them comes running out screaming at you during a mission, you go to jail. It happened to one of my dad's friends when he was over there, but they eventually let him off.
I've read The Things They Carried too :Smug:They've been through and witnessed more than we can imagine. I don't blame the torturers of Abu-Ghraib so much as I blame the intoxicating and mind-numbing effects of war. The soldiers cannot be held responsible for what psychological and sociological damage has been done to them. And then there's the chain of command to consider.

Anyhow...I do hold them responsible. Sorry, but people need to be held responsible for their actions. If they'd beaten up one prisoner once I'd say "Okay, I see how that could happen, it's not a good thing but it's not entirely their fault"
But what they did at Abu Ghraib? I completely blame them. Plenty of other soldiers have gone to war and (getting lame here) done our country proud. Behaved with honor and dignity. If they can do it, I think a bunch of prison guards can.
EDIT: sorry for fucking up your thread, GR
