Okay, so I've hesitated to tell you all about this guitar so I could develop my own opinion and get a real feel for it.

The first thing that I noticed when I unwrapped it was the amazing playability. I really noticed how fast, smooth and easy my left hand was (although, I did have to adjust the action, brand new git and all). It was also more evident how bad my right hand technique is. Man, do I need more practice.

This is definitely the perfect bassist's guitar. One pickup, one knob. Nothing too complicated (we aren't that bright).

I've only run it through my home studio, so no time spent in front of an actual tube driven stack. With that said, I've been able to dial in some tones I'm fairly happy with and also some that I've been disgusted with. I like to test both the good and the bad. It took a lot to get the really miserable sound. The DI tone (recorded straight from the M-Audio ProjectMix I/O interface) is a significant upgrade over my other guitar (6-string, LTD V250, thx Audiophile) and the others that get recorded here (LTD EX-400, LTD EC-1000 w/ Duncans...).

And, most important ;), is the looks. The paint job is excellent. Solid black, and I couldn't notice any blemishes. The ebony fretboard is one of the best I've seen. It is better than the fretboard on my LTD B500, which is better than the board on Kazrog's F2005 (although he has a better inlay). The black chrome hardware really compliments the paint color better than any I've seen in shops. The reverse "knife-blade" headstock is just bad-ass. It is very disconcerting to be playing with that in front of me, but it looks absurdly cool from any perspective. I actually feel like a metal musician (of course, I do with an ESP "V", and "F" and a "B" body shape, but hey, I also own a J-bass and an Ibby Soundgear bass).

I can't wait to take it up to Kazrog's place and plug it into the 6505+ and HD147 and see what it sounds like loud. We'll let you know.

In the meantime, you close southern Cal guys (I know DSS3 is one) if you want to give it a spin, let me know and we can try to work it out. I'm all for helping us all learn.

Very cool,I've been waiting for a reveiw on a COW.I think I'm getting the 6-string version as I already have a pre-COW dk7 which has the nicest neck I've played. How's the neck joint?
 
I own a COW DK6 and have played several DK7's, great quality all across.
The neck joint doesn't concern me, it actually is less bulky than on other bolt-on Jackson Dinkies because the COW body is thinner.

IMO for the price this is the best Jackson guitar you can get, all-mahogany and with ebony fretboard. Fretwork is also beyond average on mine, it's just an all around flawless guitar with a very full and balanced sound.
 
Yes it always came in black... anything else would have been quite a bad marketing decisision, because there aren't many who like to pay $300 more for a camo job that looks like rotten cheese. But they also got red blue pearl and a silverburst finish now.

Hah! Never!!! :lol: That guitar rules. Swapped the pickups so the 85 is in the bridge now and it sounds brutal.

And yes, my DK7 is solid black. I was going to get the silverburst from DCGL, but Jackson had the black in stock in LA and I could get that faster and considerably cheaper by ordering from my local shop, so I decided to save money.

I was really looking upon some 7 strings with active pups, as I'd like something beefier than my Ibby RG1527+duncans (at least for recording).

To my great surprise, the DK7's dirt cheap over here in europe.

I tried Schecter Hellraiser 7's, the sound is great but the neck is a thick as a tree. How is the neck on the DK7 ? Compared to a standard 7 Ibanez. In terms of dimensions ?

according to the constructors websites, the DK 7 neck is slighlty (well almost the same) smaller (in terms of thickness).
thickness of 0.81'' (20,5 mm) @ 12th fret for the DK7 and 0.82'' (21mm) for the RG1527.

Widths at nut are also very similar : 1.875'' (47.62 mm) for the DK7 and 1,89'' (48mm) for the RG1527.

DOC, could you measure the width at the 12th fret ?? That could be a guitar I get into !!! if its not so far from 2,677'' !!!!

I've never played an Ibby 7-string, so can't compare there. But compared to the Loomis 7, it feels a bit thinner. I'm normally a bassist and play my 5-string ESP a lot, so any guitar neck feels thin to me, so I'm not a great judge of thickness. I'll measure the 12th fret tonight when I get home from work.

I'm not. I'm a bassist live, so this thing won't ever leave my studio except for the occasional drive up to Kazrog's studio. Jackson does have a custom fit case for it, but I don't know anything about it other than that it says it will fit all Dinky guitars. It's only about $85 from MF, so a good deal.

Okay, I played it for 2 weeks now.... and this guitar is... magical !!!
It already changed my playing in a very positive way and cleaned out some bad playing habits I had in my left hand.
Really light, I can play hours standing up.
The neck feels "like an Ibanez" from 1th to 17th fret, after the neck joint can start to bother you if you are doing massive intensive solo work. But of course this guitar has been created for Metal Rhytmics !!!!! But lead work is really doable anyway.

I am surprise how the bridge has not bothered me as I've played for 6 years on floyd rose only guitars.

Already made a scratch on the top of the head :( I am ready to see this guitar die of massive playing and touring... but just not to fast :D
