Jag Panzer Disbands

Majorly bummed. They've been plagued by label troubles and guitar changes over the years, but have always remained a top notch band. Even their "bad" releases were still pretty good compared to many other bands in their genre.

Mark's post from another forum:

"It's true, we're done. Sad

People play music for different reasons. Our vocalist Harry decided that unless he could support his family playing in the band, he was no longer interested. I'm the opposite. Sure, I'd love to make the big bucks, but I simply enjoy writing, recording and playing original music. And if someone else is going to fund my recordings and fly me to places like Greece, then GREAT!

I do understand Harry's reasons, but the way he handled this was terrible. He quit returning phone calls then slammed everyone associated with the band in a series of emails. There were bridges being burned everywhere.

I'll quit playing music when I die. I've got some other things planned and hopefully they'll work out for me."

I'm a little surprised he decided at this point that it wasn't a good paying gig, considering how thin their output has been for the past decade. The only thing I can think of is that Christian leaving was the last straw.

I think the same. I'd be surprised if Conklin has ever be able to live with his music. Why quit the band now? So, with the guitarist leaving (again), that was most likely the breaking point.

Still, I'm happy to have seen the band live a couple times (great performance). We can always play the albums as the band left a great legacy with such killer discs.

This is what Mark posted on another forum today:

"If I were Harry, I'd be doing everything possible to try to get the Kamelot gig. They are one of his favorite bands and he has the chops for it. They aren't huge like Iron Maiden, but I think he'd make some money with them. But I don't know if he'll do this. Chuck Schuldiner wanted him Control Denied and he just blew him off. That was a paying gig, Chuck would have paid him for the recording sessions. There have been other instances where people have tried hiring Harry but he just wasn't interested enough to return their calls. None of this makes much sense to me."

Well, this is disheartening. I was hoping there was a possibility sometime in the future for them to reunite (and yeah I know stranger things have happened) but considering how this ended, that doesn't look very promising.

This could be a matter of he said/he said but if this is true, he just seems rather "off."

It's kind of sad that I can say I got to see them once. Most of the time when a band breaks up they never came close to Ohio, let alone Columbus when they toured. I saw them open for Iced Earth at the Newport, and had a fun time. Harry interacted wih the crowd really well. Some guy beside me in the pit reminded Harry he had given a shout out to Cleveland the previous time they had been in town. Oops! I was hoping at some point I'd get to see them again. Guess that won't happen now.

Totally bummed about this. I remember being at Mark Briody's house in Colorado Springs for the cd release kickoff party of "The Age of Mastery" What a great day that was!!!....All the guys in the band were as friendly as can be, and damn Harry is hilarious. It's sad to see Harry acting this way.

Ha!!!, when me and my wife lived on the road we caught this same show! A good one for sure, for those not aware In Flames rounded out the bill that night, nice lineup! Saw JP one other time at BWBK fest in Cleveland, very bummed they broke up. To me, they were one of those bands that always seemed to be stuck in the shadows of power metal's elite when by rights they should have been one of them. Amazing talent, rooted at the heavy end of power metal, the best place to be for the genre...
