edit: ...wow, just listened to "i need you" and "one more time" and totally did not expect it to be that good! i'm not a huge dt fan mainly because of his vocals, but this stuff i could actually listen to.

This is an AMAZING CD. Wow this is better then anything DT has put out since I&W .... holy fuck. The groove on every song, the kick ass production by Borgen ... WOW!

I love this CD! I would have to say that this is possibly the best vocal work James has done overall since anything DT has done in the 90's. The production is stellar and the songwriting is amazing. This is easily one of my top albums of the year for sure! Those that don't like James' voice still probably won't like this, but DT fans everywhere should really give this a spin. I think Peter's vocals (growls and screams) are awesome and fit rather well with James' melodic singing.

This album impresses me so much, that I honestly don't see why they merge DT and this band together. Since it doesn't look like we're going to get Kevin Moore back anytime soon, me thinks it may behoove them to kick Jordan Rudess out and bring in Matt Guillory. Now that Mike is gone, Peter Wildoer would be a great fit. It also couldn't hurt to put John Petrucci's ego in check and get another guitarist to work and collaborate with (or even just a live touring guitarist to back him up). Marco Sfogli did a great job on this! John's solos and riffs lately have seemed very uninspired and robotic. It seems like it's more of a contest of how fast he can play instead of writing music and memorable solos. Someone like Marco to put him in check might be good.

It's worth the wait. This CD is what Dream Theater SHOULD be. In fact, and this is heresy for a DT fan like me to say, it basically negates the need for anything new from DT. Yes. It's THAT good.

Viking dude ... this CD is Amazing! So amazing to the point that I couldnt wait to get it on CD so I also bought it from Amazon MP3 for $7.99. Seriously man this totaly SLAYS everything DT has done since I&W. Its better then awake imho. Now dont get me wrong Awake is an AMAZING CD, but this blows it away. Tasteful melodies, solos, airy keyboard passages, its literally DT without all the boring wankerage.

Oh for sure man every song is really really good, I've grown to love Dream Theater over the years, but this is a new animal to me, just amazing.

Its a great cd..Great tunes..Great production great guitar tones..I love the drum sound..BUT....to say its better than AWAKE...right now.... I CANNOT Agree..but here is quotes taken from MARCO on petruccis forum regarding recording the guitars!

Just listened to the album today and I must say I wasn't impressed at all. It's pretty descent I guess and with really good production (although I'm not crazy about the guitars) but nowhere near the masterpiece some of you guys make it out to be. Pretty generic riffs and melodies and some cool solos in my opinion. No way it's better than ANY DT album (and btw, like most of you, I'm not a big fan of their latest few albums either). Even in their worst albums I can find songs that are much better than any of Labrie's.
Again, I'm not saying it's a bad album, but I feel like people here are exaggerating quite a bit.

I have to (respectfully) disagree with you Kimon. There isn't one thing I DON'T like about this album. For me, it's easily album of the year. Better than Awake, that may be stretching it a bit. Better than anything AFTER Awake, definitely. I don't think anyone is exaggerating...it's just their opinions, and we seem to differ. Different tastes for different folks.
