James LaBrie

@Kimon ... no disrespect intended man but I'm not sure if I've ever heard you say you ARE impressed by something :p hahaha

You know, you do have a point, I guess I'm kinda hard to please. And I do tent to post here mostly when I disagree :).

I really wanted to like this album because a good metal album is really rare to find these days and I did have high expectations after reading this thread but I just didn't find anything special in it. I can totally understand people liking it but comparing it to DT is ridiculous I think. Hopefully, eventually someone will back me up on this, since until now everyone seems to have gone crazy about this album ;).

And, by the way, just so you don't think I don't like anything , I was really impressed by the new soilwork album...even if I never was a big fan of them :p.

Hahaha .. fair enough dude ;) I get where you're coming from. I have yet to be able to even form my own opinion on this cd anyway .. although I am pretty anxious based on what others have said here so far

Funny that you mention the Soilwork ... 'cause that DIDN'T impress me in the slightest :D So its just one more reason why its a great thing that there are so many different bands to choose from

lets see if I get crucified for my Soilwork statement ... to be honest, I only ever like NBC. Anything else they've done has bored me to tears

Not to derail the thread from the topic, but I'll back you up on that Carlos. Nothing from Soilwork has impressed me. Not even the much worshipped (around here at least) Stabbing The Drama. We all just have different tastes...which is a GOOD thing.

I don't think anyone would really say StD is particularly amazing musically, it's the production that causes boners to be sprung in these parts. Just for the record :D (and my favorites are A Predator's Portrait, Figure Number Five, and Chainheart Machine; tbh I've never been all that crazy about NBC, but hey, in keeping with the theme of this thread, different strokes :D)

As for the Labrie CD, new DT has set my expectations so low that it's gonna be pretty difficult for it to disappoint me, though I hope to be pleasantly surprised :)

Yeah, I know Marcus. But that's what I was referring to. Even the production does little for me. It's just not my thing. I guess I'm a producer first, as that's what I notice first about anything, then worry about the quality of the actual songs later. :)

Marcus you hit the nail on the head with that statemnt seriously ...

Skinny .. dude .. don't even need a caption on that one ... My Nigg ....... hahahhahh Love it!

My Awake statement may be purely based on the fact that they didn't put Scarred on the US version of the CD ...lol But all in all I think musically Awake is better, from a production stand point this SLAYS Awake in every aspect though. I am definitely coming at it from a production stand point as daily I become less and less of a guitarist and more of an AE / Producer.

I never liked DT, never liked LaBrie.

I've read so many good things about this album that I gave a chance and listened through spotify.

And my opinion:

Totally plain, all songs are the same, boring. No talent on writting music.
I'd rather stick nails in my glans than listening to this album again.

This. This album is boooring. I love the production though.

You know, the music doesn't always have to be complex. Some of the time its good to just listen to more simple, straightforward albums with great production, a more "pop" format if you will. But then again most metal fans/musicians that will say an albums is boring or plain generally dislike modern mainstream pop/rock to begin with.

My copy finally arrived yesterday and I have to be honest that it's OK, but it's not great. As for comparing it to DT - sorry, I don't see it - they playing is pretty generic as has already been noted, and while the production is what catches you, I can see myself playing for a few weeks and then it finding it's way into the pile of CD's that I don't really listen to much. I'm glad I bought it as it is interesting at least for a few listens, but oh well - just figured I'd post my thoughts.

Whichers' riffs are nothing short of amazing, and memorable.

This I will agree with, but riffs only does not an amazing band make ;)

Wichers is an amazing guitar player and a damn good producer, but that being said I still find Soilwork boring. The Labrie disc may not be anything groundbreaking, but the songs are solid well though out and theres no boring wankery just for the sake of wankery.

I am still spinning it. I love it.
