James LaBrie

Okay I listen to the new Labrie record since yesterday, my first impression..easily accessible, catchy choruses, though nice proggy ideas and enough moments of virtuosity = WIN! Under the line it´s total quality, although die hard prog/DT fans may it find a bit tooo easy listening, I guess. The production is phantastic :notworthy

...The Labrie disc may not be anything groundbreaking, but the songs are solid well though out and theres no boring wankery just for the sake of wankery.

I am still spinning it. I love it.

I have to agree with this, 200%. I'm not looking for anything ground breaking, intricate or brootal riffz that defy the laws of physics. If I listen to something, and it somehow strikes a chord with me (no pun intended :P), makes me want to keep listening to it...then it's perfect for me. The song writing, the guitar sounds, the whole production and mix...it just sits perfectly with me. I've had the song "I Need You" stuck in my head from the first time I heard the single on Blabbermouth and anxiously awaited the release. I can't say I'm disappointed at all. Which I could never say for anything DT put out (after Awake) for one reason or another.

^ haven't listened cause I'm still at work and its REALLY loud here today ... all good though, I leave in an hour and have a 45 minute drive home so I'll be diving into it shortly ;)

you better post as soon as you get home. We all know nothing goes on in Philly but cock fights in the alleys!

that shit moved out from the alleys a few years ago

but yeah, I'll post my thoughts later on after I'm done work, get back from the cock fight and scarf down a cheese-steak

I'm actually serious about the cheese-steak part ... got one sitting at home waiting for me NOM NOM NOM

I am still sticking with my original review of this album. After listening to this for a week now, I'm still loving both the songwriting and production. I don't think it's just the production that makes this good. A few of you are saying the songwriting is boring, but I guess that's all just your personal tastes and preferences in music then. I still think this is the best vocal work James has done since DT's 'Scene's From A Memory' album. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Yo bitch wipe the whiz off your balls and let us know what you think ...

sorry man ... got tied up, wasn't expecting your old lady to ....

never mind, lets leave it there, shall we? :Saint:

Anyway ... Labrie disc ...

"FUCK YEAH!!!!"

Dude, this disc is killer in almost every way you want an album to be. The production is flawless, the songwriting in particular is technical at times, basic at others but always MEMORABLE ;)

I gotta say, I heard more than enough DT influence in the last disc ... seems completely gone with this one. As a matter of fact, maybe its just me, but I swear several of the tunes have an almost older In Flames quality to them ... the Colony/Clayman era.

Anyway, I fucking love it. So far the tune that seems to be sticking out the most to me is "Who you think I am"

After listening to this album for a while it still is 100% as epic as before...but after a while you start to notice the little things which makes it even better, the only thing about this album is that He(LaBrie) doesn't reach for those high awesome notes that he is capable of. For me it just a little piece that is missing, but it in no way takes away from the awesomeness of the record.
