Jeff or Steve: Triple XXX

Try spiking the hell out of the treble settings.

I've actually managed to get quite a good sound out of mine that retains its bite at high volumes - I can toss my settings your way if you'd like - you can use them to help you get a better handle on how the thing works.

ok, i don't own a triple XXX, but i've heared that you should keep all the EQs pretty low when playing at high volumes...the EQ's active, therefore you shouldn't really turn anything past noon

I use conditioner with lots of budy and good gain. My shampoo has lots of Volume as well.

How's it going with those settings? ;)

I can't say I'm too fond of the character of this amp. In a few weeks I'm gonna be mixing an album where rhythms were done with one and it's just grainy and scratchy as all hell. Not looking forward to it.

Ok here is what I have it at atm;

Crunch Channel (or Ultra, but Crunch sounds nice too, and I prefer it :))

Hair: 17:00 (full on)
Body: 20:00
Bottom: 13:00
Volume: 14.5
Gain: 13.5
Master Vol.: "1" - "5" (whatever volume you need. These settings get quite fucking loud though especially with the dampen switch on loose)

This looks like it would give more of that scooped mid sound, but it has some serious bite! I'm a big believer in mids, but for some reason the midrange on this amp... once you kick it past a certain point it starts to just sound bad in my opinion. Give it a shot and see how you like it! I find this works especially well for the low range, and sounds great with some EMG's imo.

Also make sure you have the damping switch set to 'loose' on the back. These settings sound ok quiet, but really shine when you push the XXX's master volume past "2"ish - as long as it's loud. These settings seem to really cut through any live work I've done.

Maybe I just have a freak amp and the mids on mine are fucked

Try em out and tell me what you think!

Hm. It was hard. Suddenly there was this large fizzy thing being heard, but I backed of on the Hair a bit. The bass was TOO much to use in our band, don't need more problems with the guitars vs the bass :p But after some small adjustments I realized that my previous setting had ALOT of mids, sounded closed in some how, much more open now. Oh, I sticked with the crunch channel since I really like my lead sound on the ultra. I also have the dampening on tight, sounde better me thinks. No band to try it with though, they all went sick hmmm. Well almost anyway.

Damn, I want a TS to put in front and try that. Well, well, atleast I got active EMGs.

PS. I didn't remember the crunch channel having that amount of gain! :O DS.

PSS. Why doesn't every amp maker have Master A and Master B like the ENGL Savage and the Krank amps DSS.

 So you liked it?

I play mostly death metal, and amps do vary a little - but with those settings I get almost 0 feedback unless I'm right infront of the amp and almost no hiss, rings through so clear too. Did you try it loud? It evens out when you pump up the volume, the bass slides away a bit.

Hm. I had the volume at 5 (1-10), a bit at 7 too. But one thing, that setting gave me loads of feedback. Pretty small room though. It houses 2 drumkits, 3 half-stacks, two half-bass-stacks and a PA with HUGE speakers. But I don't mind, I'm getting an ISP anyway. It hisses alot though when not playing, like when I turn the volume down on the guitar, but then again yov'e got massive amounts of gain in that head.

If I liked it? hm. Don't know :D Have to tell you after the whole band has rehearsed. But I do love the fact that it made me realise how closed my sound was.

Yeah I went through the same thing. I had a shitload of mids in it, pretty standard metal settings, couldn't figure out why mine sounded like shit :(

I seriously get no hiss or feedback at all really when I turn the volume knob down, and very little if any when I mute the strings. Try backing the gain down a tad and letting the settings work for you - maybe I described the gain a bit too high. I have my gain set to what would amount to like 6.5 pr 7.5.
