digis are undoubtedly prettier and cooler. but they easily get bent, fall apart, etc. Ive had the glue on the underside of the cd holder lose it's stickiness and fall off. If it comes with broken "teeth", youre fucked. And sometimes, the cd is hard as hell to remove.

jewel cases aren't as cool to look at. but easily replaceable.

the music overrules the artwork. jewel cases.

I'm undecided but I lean towards digipak. I like both a lot. But maybe because I'm a collector I feel like digipaks are a more cohesive and special form of packaging. The jewel case is interchangeable (although that's also a strength on the practical side). I haven't had enough negative experiences with digipaks to sour me on them. I also collect vinyl so I'm used to being careful with this stuff.

I hate it when they make digipack/"mini-lp" cases and neglect to house the CD inside of a separate envelope to slide it in and out of the sleeve, causing the CD to scuff up. Seriously, WTF?

Or certain labels (I'm looking at you SubPop) that make them a bit bigger than the standard sized jewel case and it doesn't fit inside my CD shelving. C'mon man...

j/k i just wanted to see the steam coming out of doomcifer's ears

jewelcases all day long for functionality, but digipaks for the aesthetics -- they're a lot more pleasing to look at and you can do more with the design

and yeah they get worn but so do vinyl sleeves, i think it's almost charming how some of my older and well-loved digipaks like "tuonela" and "a deeper kind of slumber" have a couple of battle scars. it's not damage, it's patina

that said they need to have the proper trays, those fuckin sleeve things can indeed fuck the hell off

I love Wrekmeister Harmonies but their past couple albums are marketed full price when they come in a fucking PROMO SLEEVE without so much as a card insert by way of "booklet". Wonder how broke a band/label can be to do something like that. I mean, I don't mind minimalist objects, but at this rate I end up forgetting I even own the CDs since they basically disappear between Wolves in the Throne Room and Xasthur.
