Jim's bass tuning

Hiya!!

I've seen some recent pics of Jim playing a 4-string jazz bass... Does he tune that Db Ab Eb Bb? Or maybe he uses that just for the old songs and use that 5-string tuned half step down for the newest ones? Just curious!!

I believe he uses a 5 string for new songs, I may be wrong.

I think he tunes it like the bottom 4 of a 5 string - Bb Eb Ab Db. That would make sense with the 7 string guitars...

Yeah that would, I am just curious if he "discards" the G (Gb in that case) string...

I'm pretty sure he does. He used his Jazz bass in I Voyager so yeah I'm assuming thats what he does.

Yeah. It's a 4 string tuned Bb Eb Ab Db. At least thats what it was when I saw'em live last November.

Jim tunes like the bottom 4 of a 5 string ... He rarely used the High G in the old shit so he really never needed it.

I asked him last time i saw them on gigiantour ... so thats straight for the Cap'n's mouth
