Join me at the altar of Coverdale....

It is AMAZING. Lay Your Love Down On Me should be the song to go to radio with first to say WHITESNAKE IS BACK. Maybe only 1 filler song on it.

Yeah that seems like an odd track to start the lp. with. My buddy listened to it with me and i played him LYLDOM 1st and he thought it was gonna turn out to be the new JORN album, lol. He loves it as well but kept saying throughout the night listening to it that he couldnt help but wonder what these songs would sound like with JORN singing them, lol.

Glenn, have you seen the band live within recent tours? Also, did you ever see them live back in the 80's?

~Brian~

Not sure about GLenn, but I saw Whitesnake in 1988 at the Omni in Atlanta from the 3rd from stage. DAMN the band was awesome (Great White opened). As far as recent years go, I have only seen the recent dvd with the new band, and it kicks MAJOR A$$

Like Venom, I saw them on that tour. I also saw them open for Motley in 87 on the Girls tour - they totally blew Motley off the stage. One of my all time favorites for sure - I'll be grabbing the new disc for sure.

Brian - I love the mid-80's cock-rock Snake as well......

I just listened to the entire album again while working out and now i think the 1st song 'BEST YEARS OF MY LIFE" is a great song. To me it has a very BLUE MURDER qaulity to it, infact the guitar solo has John Sykes written all over it. I'd even go so far to say alot of the soloing on the album has John Sykes playing style on it. Doug Aldrich is gonna become a ROCK GOD.

Oh yeah i saw WS in 2005 and they were AMAZING!!

I've never been able to see this band, so I'm chompin' at the bit to do so! I would've loved to seen them back during that era though.

I actually picked up Saints and Sinners from 1982 this morning, so I'm going to give that a spin. I've always overlooked that album

The new Whitesnake disc is fanfuckingtastic (except the first cut which is just mediocre). It's has their classic, retro sound complete with the bluesy riffing. Aldritch really delivers big time. Plus, not only do God's vocals sound as awesome as ever, they are even better on the ballads. You can hear just a touch of Father Time catching up with him and adding to that sexy as hell smokey rasp in his lower range.

Fave cuts: "Lay Down Your Love" (arena rock at it's best) & "Summer Rain" (beautiful ballad).

"Slide It In" remains one of my all time favorite straight ahead melodic hard rock discs. If you're ever in your car driving at night, this is one of those discs that really makes it feel good to put the pedal to the metal...

Anyone have 'Into the Light' Cov's solo disc from 2000, I believe? I love that album! It has more in common with his early solo & 'Snake material than it does latter day WS, but it is one of my faves. I'll put it along side 'Northwinds' and it holds it's own! It actually only has 1 or 2 songs that bear any resemblance to latter day WS. Again, much more comparable to his earlier solo stuff. Great bluesy songs and wonderful ballads, with Cov' singing mostly in his normal deeper bluesy voice, and not the screeching he did way too much of with late 80's 'Snake. It has one of, if not my fave Coverdale ballad, called 'Love Is Blind'...fuckin' beautiful! The video for said song is below.

And the right & proper version of 'Fool For Your Loving' with::notworthy
Micky Moody
Bernie Marsden
Ian Paice
Jon Lord
Neil Murray

I bought it when it came out in 2000. It's got a few killer songs on it like "River Song" and the ballad "wherever You May Go". It would be a killer album if it had a heavier mix on it.

Not bad. Coverdale still sounds strong, the songs are well arranged and the production excellent. Unfortunately (for me), the songs just don't grab me. Their solid, but if I'm in a Whitesnakey kind f mood, I've going to reach for Slide it In, Whitesnake or Slip of the Tongue.

Glenn... are you still high on this? I often find with new releases by my favorite 80s artists, I'm high on them initially, but they lack staying power for me.

I still need to check it out. It'll be interesting to see what the setlist will be like - hopefully it emphasizes the three albums you mention. Man would I love to hear Judgement Day or Sailing Ships live. Slip of the Tongue had some definite hit or miss songs, but the "hit" songs are extremely underrated.

still a wonderful new album by Whitesnake. The album has some songs were the guitarists are really tearing it up.

I love Slip of the Tongue! Slow Poke Music is one of the best cuts on the album as well, but never mentioned in conversation. I'd love to see them perform that song live, but I don't think it could be pulled off without Vai on guitar!

Yikes. I've always considered Slip of the Tongue to be one of Whitesnakes weakest albums. Give me Trouble, Lovehunter, Come and Get It and Ready and Willing any day of the week. Slide It In is pretty darned good also. I'm really looking forward to this new release. If the band sounds as good as they did on the live DVD, I'm sure it'll be great!
