That reminds me of Pink Floyd's "The Wall" tour. The drummer bloke and the keyboard dude (can't remember their names offhand - Nick Mason and someoneorother?) were fired from the band, then hired on as crew and got paid a salary... and because the tour was so expensive they were the only bandmembers to actually make money on the tour because the costs of the shows weren't coming out of their pockets.

Something like that, anyway. I'm sure someone here will correct me as usual

Yeah, bass players are funny things. Examples:

* John Myung is the quietest one in Dream Theater.
* Rick Savage is the most effeminate one in Def Leppard
* Cliff Burton is the dead one in Metallica
* Jason Newstead is the one that left the band recently in Metallica
* Whatsisname from Van Halen is the one nobody ever remembers
* Johnny Lee Middleton has been in Savatage for years and years and still gets no real recognition, even though he has one of the coolest names in metal

Probably a few others I'm forgetting!

* Iced Earth have had every bass player ever to play metal in their band at some point.
